    Source?
If true, he was pretty good with these shot knees of his. And has a better single win than Rocky with this knees.

    I hear you.
Nevertheless, with this kness, he beat (and drew imho) with a 35/36y old undefeated LH, who was better than anything Rocky did. Plus, he fought two true HW with big winning records and beat them as well.
So, if he beat and drew with Holmes, beat Tangstad and Cooney, he is very capable of beating two LHW-CW ancients older than LH, as well as the smaller Ezzard Charles.
The rest is no match for a non-weight limited Michael Spinks coming in at 200.
Half to 2/3 of that 49-0 is amateur level for Michael. What matters is the fights afterwards.

Yes, but it's not as though he fought loads of big heavies is it?

I mentioned it because you thought Spinks 1st 26 opponents were lhv's was relevant.
Billy Conn's first 20 were welterweights about 40 of his next middles and lhvys and about 8 heavyweights when he challenged Louis,How many heavies had Carpentier and Tunney fought when they challenged Dempsey?

Okay I see your point, but Spinks would also be fighting quite a few smaller heavies and light heavies in the 50's wouldn't he?

With menaces like Don Cockell and Rex Layne roaming around, the question isn't "why not", it's "why"!

He should as long as he stays on track and takes training seriously. Otherwise their's bound to be a Busted Dougler who will take advantage of his complacency. I don't think this will be a problem as Their was no Don King to lead him astray. On the contrary, he'll have a young D'Amato and Jacobs.

going undefeated has a little to do with being good and a lot to do with handpicking well. If you fight the best you will have a loss here and there. You will be so exhausted with that level of competition that you will wear out enough to get a loss here and there also.

That argument cuts both ways, because Marciano's opposition was not hand picked over some high risk sections of his career!

Also the race to match his records, was open to people who hand picked their opposition.

I think it is more impressive if a guy had many defenses rather than undefeated. What if Yori Boy Campas became champ when was 48-0 and fights Oba Carr or some other contenders and wins and goes to 50-0? He beats Floyd's record or ties it?

I think I’m these hypotheticals people are only thinking of fighters in their prime or when they were young. Well make em all start boxing at 24 and squeeze in six fights a year for eight years. I don’t think many people are thinking this through. Tyson was an absolute beast and would run through these people in four years if he was prime for those fights but a 30 year old Tyson was beatable. I don’t mean to pick on Tyson but he was brought up and he was inconsistent with his training. Chances are they would have to fight the best at the end of their careers and how many would be able to do that? That list is getting smaller
