Napoles and Sanchez were two of a dying breed....aggressive counterpunchers.

I like Napoles for this. Moore was a different type, he was a classic counter puncher who set people up with feints. Toney was different again, as was Burley, as was Locche, as was Canto. All fantastic counter punchers, but I like Napoles personally.

    There are definitely plenty...
Napoles, Marquez (his use of feints to counter his oponent's movements are definitely top of the line), Toney, Mayweather, Walcott, McCallum, Moore (same boat as Marquez), Starling...

I'm having a very hard time picking.

Vic, you are correct. Joe Louis was the greatest counter-puncher that ever lived...And also the greatest puncher, I might add...

I don't really think of Louis when I think "counter-puncher".

Yeah, neither do I, but I know what the guy means. He pressures the space and draws leads which he counters or pre-counters I guess but it's not counter-punching in the purist sense of the word I suppose. Louis was a sort of trapsmith I guess.

Donald Curry had some of the prettiest counter-shots of my lifetime.

Watch Pernell Whitaker's counter at the 1:08 mark:

El Radar Benitez is a good shout too IMO. As well as Finito Lopez.

Whenever I see the word counter puncher the first name that always pops into my head is JERSEY JOE WALCOTT - so I guess for me he'd have to be up there

    Perhaps he isn´t a counter-puncher by essence.....

But I must say....Watching Louis I really see a very good diversity of counter-punches everytime.....

    Some few examples:

Counters Carnera´s jab with a beatiful right....
