Galindez and Quarry come to mind based on the definition of 'counter puncher'.
Sidebar: Ever notice how many 'counter puncher's' are involved in so many draws and close decisions? It's almost like the judges don't appreciate the style and tend to reward aggressiveness over a round turning SHOT. Just a thought. I think Quarry had 4-5 draws early in his career. I had some amateur fights as a young 'punk' but didn't have the savvy to come forward with my limited set of tools and laid back waiting to counter. The judges often weren't very kind to me even though I landed some wallops after getting pushed into the ropes.

I never really understood the Joe Louis as a counter puncher argument. Just don't see him as that, and certainly not one of the best at it.

For me I'd say, Pea.. May... Napoles... Sanchez... Marquez... Toney... Walcott...

RJJ. can counter your jab by spontaneously knocking you out with a bodyshot.
    Holyfield is underrated.
