Impossible to tell because we don't have most of Fitz's ko's on film. That being said, the human body hasn't changed much in a 120 year time span. Hence, its fair to conclude the hardest punchers of 100+ years ago were just as naturally powerful as the hardest punchers today given similar weights. I am calling it even.
All the math points to Fitz. Fitz had the power to take superheavyweights out with ease weighing WW. Nothing suggests Beterbievs that powerful.
Difficult to compare in absolute terms for a variety of reasons, but relative to era and size, it's Fitz for me.
Fitz with far more fights than Beterbiev and a KO Ratio of 93.33% in 60 fights, it just confirms what power he had so I'll say Fitz...
Fitzsimmons' power was almost unbelievable for a middleweight. However, it was literally lethal as some of his opponents died and others risked their lives from his punches.
“Whilst physicians were examining him, Ruhlin opened his eyes and faintly asked for water. This was given him as he again lapsed into a sort of stupor. Blood at this time was trickling from his ears and nose.”
160 pound Fitzsimmons knocked out a 300 pound man in 1 round. 170 pound Fitzsimmons knocked out 260 pound Dunkhorst in 2 rounds. While his records are wildly incomplete we have enough to know it wasn't a fluke. How does Beterbiev literally hit harder than that? Fitzsimmons isn't a true MW especially for his era. He was almost 6 ft tall. Its like if Wilder made 200 or 175 somehow and went on a reign of terror and we called him a P4P great. Yes that's technically true but it betrays the spirit of what P4P is supposed to mean. The weight system is based on the idea weighing less handicaps you if it doesn't you've found a glitch.
Fitzsimmons had like 2Oz gloves and Beterbiev would also be able to knock out unskilled 300lbders especially with 2Oz gloves.
Wasn't Beterbiev fighting at heavy as an amateur? Surely he fought some superheavys, what were the results?
Boxing rec doesn't show the weights. Its speed boxng so he has only a few rounds but his KO rate was 44%.
