They still aren't LHW wins and Bivins was a bit better at 175.

Charles went 3-0 against Archie Moore, who would be a very credible candidate for the honor himself.

If it is not Charles, then Moore's opposition rapidly becomes very thin.

That is how good Charles was.

I totally agree if we are talking resumes here. And certainly take serious consideration if we are talking head to head.

I'll be honest, though. Charles doesn't look great all the time on film. He apparently had a way to find the W, though. That can not be doubted.

I think hes got the single longest unbeaten streak to start his career of any contender from the upper weight classes. He also won a LHW title fight it was just KO only.

Charles lost in the duration champ tournament to Bivins then lost to Marshall in an eliminator then had a streak before going to HW. There is no one with comparable feats in any other era that are considered mount rushmore in their weight class.

They were for Charles, since they were used to determine his ranking @ LHW & propelled him to the top of those rankings.

"Light heavyweight boxer Ezzard Charles of Cincinnati knocked out heavyweight Jimmy Bivins in the fourth of a scheduled ten-round fight on Monday.
The victory placed Charles in line for the match with the light heavy title-holder Gus Lesnevich.
    "

His resume as a LHW is comparable if not better than those of either SRL under 147 or Sal Sanchez, & both of them are rated among the upper echelon @ their weights.

If one fighter is under 175 and one is above that is a HW contest.

Then why didn't those wins result in a HW ranking for Charles, given that Bivins was still ranked @ HW when they fought in '46?

Poll was not necessary. The correct answer is Charles.
