I don`t know I just feel Baer might not have been big or strong enough to KO the bigger heavies that followed his smaller era.

He was basically the same weight in Comiskey and Galento fights as prime Foreman, heavier if anything.
That's the point though -Baer even at 220 lbs looks slim and fit. This means that he wasn't small at all. He and Foreman wouldn't be small in any era.

So speeding up the footage makes the KO more brutal?

He KOed a lot of bigger guys than him. It's a myth that he was huge in his era, he was big (as he would today) but he fought many bigger men.

Again, none of the Shavers/Tua/Baer/Foreman are among the best P4P hitters in history.

Guys like McGroven, Fitzsimmons, Langford, Walcott or probably even Paciquiao are harder hitters P4P.

People say this, but in fairness he won the title from the biggest lineal champion of all time!

The one common theme with Baer, is that everybody who bumped into him, was in awe of his power.

It is clear that his only per in his own era, for one punch power, was Curtis Sheppard.

Joe Louis take a back seat!

I don't know if he was the hardest hitter of all time, because there are 2-3 Curtis Sheppard's, for every Max Baer.

I think that he is a fairly good candidate, for being the hardest puncher ever to hold the lineal title!

Yeah guys who clearly outboxed him like Loughran or Farr (if I remember correctly) always said that he hit like a monster. You can question Baer as a finisher but as a power puncher? I don't see that.

In the heavyweight division size/weight is no predictor of punching power.

Punching power is the result of numerous factors including skill, technique, timing and speed.

This is why hwts such as Dempsey at 190 pounds hit harder than say a Tex Cobb at 225. As just one example.

The hardest hitting heavyweights ever with two hands are dempsey and Louis....baer with his right hit alittle harder than dempsey or Louis ......but of course Louis annihilated baer

My initial roughly divisional list without thought would be this -

    Joe Louis/Earnie Shavers
    Rocky Marciano/Jack Dempsey
    Bob Foster/Michael Spinks
    Gerald McClellan
    Julian Jackson
    Thomas Hearns/Pipino Cuevas/SRR
    Kostya Tsyzu
    Edwin Rosario
    Sandy Saddler/Naseem Hamed
    Wilfredo Gomez/Jaime Garza
    Ruben Olivares/Carlos Zarate

These are guys with enough decent footage for me to be happy to put down. Resume isn't immensely important but i do want to see a bit there otherwise the list would be huge. Garza is easily the thinnest on the ground but the division is shallow and for a short time he was considered the biggest P4P puncher in the world and rated above Gomez. He'd drop out fast in any narrowing down. Off the cuff Foster and Jackson would be very heavy contenders for #1.

That doesn’t work with the Heavyweights,They are the biggest fighters at the highest weight but putting your flawed bias towards Heavyweights method aside, they can still be p4p the hardest hitters as well as physically the hardest hitters in reality.
