Actually Blade I agree that a loss doesn't hurt your legacy and I certainly dont rank Floyds greatness by the fact he never lost as I think he could have done at the higher weights if he'd have fought different people. But each opinion is our own and I respect yours and I respect that Toney is a definate great Regards
I would have to go with Mayweather by quite a margin. Toney is a great fighter but Mayweather is an elite fighter who would have gone down as a contender for greatest of all time if he had taken a few more risky fights at welterweight. I guess there is still time.
Toney's an ATG?, i can honestly say i've never considered him 1......to me he's just a "great figther" not an ATG fighter so with that said, i'd say FMJ
James "split decision" Toney was an excellent fighter, but never really THE man at any weight and had a good share of close fights or losses to guys that wouldn't come close to beating Mayweather (Thadzi, Tiberi, Johnson, McGroom, etc). Floyd may have left a few possible fights at 147, but he won every single of his bouts and faced plenty of challenges as well as good fighters, whom he often dominated or beat easily. For instance, Hatton may have won a couple of rounds, but Floyd was in control at any moment in the fight... as Manny Steward put it: "Ricky can't afford to slow down even a bit, because Mayweather paces himself perfectly and will destroy him when he opens up"... he did just that and stopped a pretty durable, natural 140 lbs'er. Basically, Mayweather beat better fighters, never lost (or 1 at best, which was avenged convincingly) and actually DOMINATED, Toney always had close fights. Even the Jirov fight was very close going into the 11th, i think Lederman had Jirov ahead at that point, though he often rewards aggression too much... but back to the point, Mayweather is clearly the greater boxer.
but hes clearly much better, and handled his career much more intelligently than Toney, so Mayweather hand down
both Grand Rapids born fighters ... I will have to go with Mayweather but it doesn't matter because they're both from my hometown.
Floyd's a small welter yet you think he should step in with a Legit light Heavy weight? You say alot of off the wall stuff i've noticed.
Mayweather. When I look at Toney's career I always think he underachieved, though I still think he was a great fighter.
Mayweather. The fact is that Toney never reached his full potential, while PBF did. If Toney had been as dedicated to his craft as PBF he would have been one of the best.
