He theoretically could, he has the style and power and volume, but he would get stopped in the process due to the swelling. Ali is not missing that jab and his lean to the side stance would line him right up with alis laser right hand leads. The downward angle and trajectory means marciano will get nicked on the forehead and above the eyes too frequently. Blood inevitably trickles into his eyes and sometime around the 10th Ali would stop him but he would have some very sore abs and welts on his arms--barely able to raise them.

Marciano stops Ali just like Marciano stopped 170 pound club fighter Ted Lowry. By getting the crap beat out of him. Ali would stop Ali when ever he choose too. If he wanted to do it in 1 round he would.

Ali would have found a way to win always. He took many Foreman right hands to the body which would have made most guys quit.

Funny if you posed this question in say 1970 Marciano would win in a landslide. 50 years later it’s Ali in a landslide.

Well prime Frazier couldn’t stop post exile Ali in the FOC and he was never the same after that even in winning. So I don’t think Rocky achieves it either against a better version of Ali.
I agree with Mac, I think a busted up Rocky is possibly stopped late.

Honestly, I think a PRIME Ali would administer Rocky a terrible beating, his face would look like hamburger . The only question is will it go the distance and I'd say no, due to facial damage. Rocky had his nose split wide open by Ezzard Charles and that one would have been stopped had Rock not scored a KO in the next round.

Nobody is knocking out Ali with one punch,, if I had to come up with a guy who could do it? Joe Louis ,with a combo.?

Sincere question, as I really don’t have a dog in this fight.

How often was Rocky cut badly and or in danger of being stopped? I can only think of one close call.

It just seems to me that picking someone to lose on cuts might be a solid prediction if it was Alan Minter? I am not sure that Rocky got severely cut outside of that 1, but I am interested in learning. Thanks in advance

Actually was just reading that stat book on boxing (boxing by the numbers)that stated the Marciano cuts easy was a myth and that he didn’t cut more or less then the other top fighters.

Although I pick Ali to win by points in no way shape or form does he dominate that fight...if anything he’s the ONE guy I see with a chance of beating a prime Ali. But I still think he loses by points.

Going against the grain of the thread for a bit, i think Marciano has a 50/50 shot of beating Ali, with a 50/50 shot of the win being a knockout. Marciano has incredible power, a workhorse pace that'd beat out even Frazier's, and he'd hit anywhere. No man has consistently gone 15 with Marciano. Marciano would be the best puncher Ali ever fought (note: not the HARDEST, the BEST)

That being said, I still find it statistically unlikely that Marciano would stop Ali. So I'd vote "no", but to say Marciano isn't capable is crazy talk

Edit: I've said it once, I'll say it again, Ali stated multiple times that Marciano would give him the toughest fight of any Heavyweight champion. He didn't even know if he could beat Marciano. Many of Ali's contemporaries thought Marciano would beat Ali, Joe Louis himself thought Marciano would beat Ali. You can call them crazy, but really, it's just your word against theirs.

They didnt call him "Boxing's Caesar" for nothing

Never read about the Simmons fight. Do you have a link or anything, I would be interested in reading up on that
