Arizmendi may have fought the majority of his fights in California, but that doesn't mean that he wasn't an incredibly popular figure when he did fight in Mexico, such as when he defeated Hendry Armstrong in front of a sellout crowd in Mexico City. Macias was extremely popular in his own right, I grant, but I still have to wonder if he would have been quite as popular had Azteca and Arizmendi not blazed the trail that they did, and served as idols for any number of mexcian youths who sought to follow in their foot-steps.
