Who and how many fights will it take for you to give Joe respect?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by MasterCalzaghe, Jan 13, 2008.

  1. In light of the whole Dan-b shameless trolling of my previous thread I created this one, a more subjective take on Joe for you all to participate in. Hopefully dan-b will not stoop to such low levels to come trolling here though he is more than welcome to come here and give his views.

Now, we all know Joe has his doubters, fair do. I respect that. you are individuals, we are not robots so let me ask this:

Joe retres in two fights - or so he says anyway but who would you like to see him face and win for you to warm to him?

Any number of present named fighters you wish, take your pick.

I already respect Calzaghe. Also too many threads about one boxer makes people dislike said boxer. Just a thought :good

And yes Dawson does seem to be many people's final test, any more suggestions / views?

He's already got my respect too. But really, he's started his run way late in his career which is why he is not held to the same esteem as the likes Jones Jr., Mayweather, Toney, DLH and some of his other contemporaries.

Calzaghe has already earned my respect. I think he is in the twilight of his career and a win against Hopkins would seal an excellent career. He has fought and beaten some great fighters. If he retires after beating Hopkins I would have no problem at all. There is a possible fight against Dawson. Fights against Froch and Jones would do nothing to enhance his standing in my opinion.

He needs to do nothing further to get my utmost respect.

    - Longest winning streak amateurs and pros combined in the history of boxing
    - Only non - heavyweight to ever stop Chris Byrd
    - titleholder for ten years
    - not single win was close enough that the loser complained about the decision
    - classy guy, even his trashtalk is not disrespectful, never resorts to dirty tactics

Anything else he does at this point of his career is a bonus.

A split decision, but still not any real robbery. Clear win.

Robin Reid said Calzaghe won, because he was too fast.

He can retire if he beats Hopkins.

Edit: I already have full respect for Calzaghe, but I think this would be a great win, regardless of Hopkins' age.
