Indeed, to be stopped ten times in nearly a hundred fights in world level in an era of a deep and rich talent pool, keen and hungry competition and no self funded promotions or hand picked opponents and groomed records is nothing to be ashamed of, particularly when he was competing in every weight division from middle to heavy all at the same time. I think you should be ashamed of your yourself for having so little knowledge of the essence of the sport you clearly enjoy, Fists.
Think you should read my post again,did not say he had no Class in fact gave him a huge wrap, I would not put him in my Top 5 Australian Boxers end of story,and then stated the obvious he had a Suspect Chin nothing to be ashamed of done a great job in His long and illustrious career if I offended you with the Glass Jaw statement I appologise but it's just an opininon.!!!!
Nah, I was just getting on my high horse, you didn't offend me and I know you didn't refer to him as having no class, but I think this 'glass jaw' thing is a label that is thrown around to much. We are used to to many Sven Ottke type situations in modern day boxing, When a fighter is willing to fight any one, in any weight division in an era where there is a deep pool of hungry and able opponents, and said fighter fights regularly, it is naive to think that said fighter won't come out of it without some stoppage losses, in fact that may be the only way the fighter can be beaten. Look at Muay Thai, some of the big names have 3-400 fights, for roughly a third losses, some may have less losses but all by KO. Paul Briggs (let's discount his last fight) was a genuine warrior, he turned pro at 15 and fought adults at that age to win tough man comps. He won a real world Muay Thai tittle at eighteen and had fought the worlds best before he retired from fighting. His wars against Tomasz Adamek are testimony to how tough, willing and able he was as a fighter. Yet the same man, who showed to have a granite chin, not only got stopped in his second boxing fight, but got stopped many times as a kickboxer.
No worries Mate,I loved to watch Tony Senior fight,back then they had no where to hide,if blokes like Him and Hector Thompson were fighting now they would have a cupboard full of Bloody World Titles,Oh for the good old days when a World Champion really was a World Champion.!!!
It is a shame Jimmy Carruthers didnt come along a little bit later. I think he is our most underated and deserves a mention.
