Wtf Oscar De La Hoya Is Mexican He Was Born In American (which makes him mexican-american) Hes Not White Both Parents Are Mexicans, Neither Are White Wtf???
Mexican may not be a race. However, Mexicans(for the most part), do not consider themselves white. Indian is not a race but you really can't categorize them as black, white, or yellow. When it comes to race and nationality, it can get confusing.
I never knew that Mexicans were considered "white". I think bigred is right though. Most dont consider themselves white. They see themselves in the Latin category.
Mexican, Latino is not a race. White is a race. It is like me saying "I am Slavic, I am not White". It is just different things. You cannot compare kilograms with meters.
The thing is, race is more socially defined rather than scientifically defined. Someone's race can change depending where they are located. At one point, in America, the English and the Germans were the only ones that were considered white. Eventually, the Irish and Italians were accepted as whits as where the Jews. The U.S attempted to label Native Americans as white but Native Americans rejected this idea. For purposes of the census, Middle Easterners are considered white now. Latinos are in flux. They are a bit harder to determine.
DLH is mexican, that's what he considers himself to be and what he's selling himself to be, but he resides in the US, was born in the US as a US citizien and is white, simple as that. There are three dominant ethnicities in Mexico: Mestizos (mixed white & amerindian), amerindian (indigenous) and white (of european descent, mostly southern Europe). So DLH is a white Mexican (or Mexican American if you will) with US citizienship, period. He's not blue eyed and blonde but still white. His skin colour is white and he has caucasian facial features. You can find lots of people in southern Europe who look that way. On the other side, why is it so ****ing important what race DLH is?
It's not, but it's interesting to see how people define race. You define it by skin color and facial features. However, look at these two guys pictured below. They have similar facial features and skin color yet one is considered white and one is considered black. This content is protected This content is protected
