i have it a toss up between sanchez, saldivar and baby arizmendi as number 1. sanchez looks to have been the greatest but arizmendi and saldivar have great arguments themselves. sanchez was untouchable in his prime with his best wins of gomez, nelson and lopez (2x). arizmendi had equally great wins over hof's lebarba, armstrong, miller and wright saldivar also had equally great wins too over famechon, laguna, ramos and legra there also many others as we all know, barrera, morales, j. marquez, oliveras, medina, alejandro gonzalez and paez.
well i take a stab at my own post, 1. sanchez 2. arizmendi 3. saldivar 4. barrera 5. marquez 6. morales 7. medina 8. oliveras 9. gonzalez 10. paez
I haven't got a complete list made up of all the Mexican featherweights, but I do know that the top 2 are: 1. Sal Sanchez 2. Vincente Saldivar and by the way, what a super great fight Sanchez-Saldivar would have been! I would have Sanchez winning a close 15 round decision. It would have been a classic.
great post, i think if saldivar retired right after he beat famechon he would have that same mystique around him and regarded just a good as sanchez.
Excellent post. However,Sanchez died in that car accident when he was only 23 years old,so we will never know what his prime would have been.
Here are some more Mexican World Champions: Gregario Vargas, Marcos Villasana, & Oscar Larios. Fighters Mexican-American: Stevie Cruz, Bobby Chacon, Danny Lopez, & Johnny Tapia.
Could be..that retiring undefeated works wonders with your legacy, IMO...if Joe Frazier had only done the same thing..
Haha, really though, what Sanchez might have achieved, imagine if he didn't attempt to move up in weight, can you say 'Carlosalvadaor Monzonchez'?
1. Sanchez 2. Saldivar 3. Arizmendi 4. Olivares 5. Chalky Wright (born in Durango, Mexico) 6. Barrera 7. Marquez 8. Morales 9. Medina 10. Paez
