Colin Jones is now the assistant national coach of Welsh Amateur Boxing.

He has got a big Welsh ABA van that he drives around in.

    Excellent. Thanks for those :good
There's a film about Winstone supposedly coming out. It's been in production for a few years now, but I think they've run out of money or something, as there doesn't seem to be any progress.
They allegedly got Marco Antonio Barrera to play Vicente Saldivar, but I don't think that's the case, as there's no production shots of him and noothing more has been reported. Enzo Maccarinelli's in it though! (That is, if it ever finally sees the light of day).

He's actually a really nice, decent guy is Colin. However, as much as I like and respect him, certain W.A.B.A officials have one rule for him and another for others.

I have no beef with Colin. However when he first started training amateurs, it got a lot of people's backs up because certain W.A.B.A personnel immediately put him on international duties, and apparently he didn't even have his coaching qualifications (I don't know this for certain, but it seemed to be the common knowledge amongst all the W.A.B.A coaches who spoke about it at Division meetings. Not sure if he has now or not.)

There have been coaches in the W.A.B.A who have served years and years, but often get overlooked for internationals by Tony Williams (head "coach") and Co. in favour of those who's "face fits" a little bit better with the tossers at the top.
Just because Colin Jones had the name recognition, the rule that says you have to be W.A.B.A qualified to train and work with the amateurs even at club level just mysteriously disappeared, and he was straight away selected to serve as assistant international coach.

Me personally, I couldn't care less as I had no interest in representing the W.A.B.A anyway because despite what it may appear on the outside, they're basically a cowboy outfit run by a bunch of back-slapping "old boys club" cronies (my contempt for them is one thing I certainly agree on with Joe Calzaghe).
But those long serving, qualified trainers whose noses were put out of joint certainly have a point and I agree with them. Fair is fair, and that's not fair.

I'm sure training at driscolls will provide some magic.

It already has :D Nice to have a home we can call our own, and one with so much history too. Let's hope we can give it a future.
It certainly won't be for the want of trying.

Aye interesting post - it seems excpetions to the rules - happen.

Colin has only been training as a Welsh National Coach for a couple of years or so and I know he has been all around the world on "international duties"

Its not fair - but this sort of thing goes on everywhere I am sure.

Not just in boxing - but in all kinds of organazations.

If you are good with the people at the top - then rules get bent for you.

Of course this will cause resentment for those below.

True. Very true. As I say, I couldn't care less about that issue from a personal standpoint, I just like to see fairness, as we all do.
But it's just a minor part of the whole sum, the W.A.B.A are just crap, full stop. It's a shame, as the ones who suffer from it the most are the boxers themselves.
The English and Scottish A.B.A's, for any faults they may have that I'm unaware of, always seemed far more structured and professional whenever I encountered them than the embarrassing Welsh A.B.A ever did.

I remeber a few years back at Xmas time in Swansea.

A top South Wales Police Chief was off duty and having a drink with another off duty police man.

They had a few drinks - then committed the criminal offence of driving home - well over the limit.

But they were pulled over by a Police Officer who didnt know who they were and despite the Constable telling him - he still felt obligied to do his professional job and breathlize him.

He was over the limit and off duty - so he was arrested.

In court his other Police Officer mate said it was his fault as he was slipping Vodka into his drink without him knowing it :nut:nut:nut

    Judge let him off completely

If that had been a normal person - big fine - banned for driving for 2 years - Criminal record

But it seems if you are a certain person - rules can be overlooked.

Tony Blair ****ed the Country up - sent loads of low paid Soldiers to do his dirty work and go out to Iraq and Afghanistan to die and be maimed

Yet Blair has made a estmimated £14,000,000 since he left Office for "speechs"

Also despite being a failed Prime Minister he is now the man they want as "President of Europe"

Meanwhile he lives in a £5 million mansion - while loads of Brits lost their homes in the recssion.

Also Blairs 25 year old son lives in a Plush £500,000 apartment in London and Works for a big international bank for a fat wage

As far as I am concerned when you look at the world with clear eyes there is rule bending and corruption everywhere :deal
