We have two choices in the US...either Fox sports or ESPN. I want the better of the two groups....if Mauro Ranallo is on one stream then I'll take the other one. But he may not be there this time.
I watched the version with Lennox Lewis and Andre Ward. They were decent on the commentary. The one online is from PBC.It's awful. It has some woman and some other guy neither have any insight into boxing. For fight 3 It will will be Brian Kenny, Lennox Lewis and Andre Ward for the ESPN version. source: https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-...ments-ahead-of-fury-vs-wilder-iii-fight-week/
Ah, a fellow Maurophobe. How did you feel about Gus when he was SHO's boxing play-by-play guy, Frank?
Lol Gus was a screamer too. Al Bernstein is great but I cannot abide Mauro. I miss Sean "The Champ" O'Grady.
ESPN+ wants you to buy a subscription before you can buy the PPV. Might go with Fox if I can avoid the subscription BS.
Just imagine if it were Lampley, Merchant and Steward all in their announcing primes. People loved to hate on HBO, but it had by far the best production for a big fight.
Oh I didn't even realize they had two broadcast teams, I would definitely be interested to hear who it is for both sides.
WOW! GOING TO BE A GREAT SHOW! OK, here we go: ESPN and FOX are combining their staffs for the night. Fight commentators: Lennox Lewis, Andre Ward, Brian Kenny to do the At the "Desk" will be Bob Arum's favorite lady, Kate Abdo, Max Kellerman and Shawn Porter. Other reporting duties will be held by Heidi Androl and and Bernardo Osuna. Larry Hazzard will do the unofficial (and useless) round by round scoring. Jimmy Lennon Jr to do the ring announcing (thank god Diamante will not be in the house). Spanish language coverage: Adrian Garcia Marquez with Erik Morales and David Faitelson. Wilder vs. Fury III production will include a unique mixture of innovative camera mounts, super slow motion and high resolution. FOX Sports will add a pair of JitCam cranes on opposite sides of the rings, one with the ability to move up to 100 feet along a track from one side of the venue to the other. A Dynamicam, a mini three-axis cable cam system, functioning as a wired “drone” on the reverse side of the ring, will fly over the audience. A super high-resolution “c360” camera will be used above the ring in the place of a conventional robotic overhead to allow infinite zoom and pan functions to that position. Additionally, FOX Sports will have an ultra-slow-motion camera on the reverse side of the ring, sporting a one-of-a-kind high-resolution lens to give a cinematic “Raging Bull” feel to replays. In addition, there will be several wireless cameras, including FOX Sports’ Megalodon shallow depth-of-field camera, made famous as part of FOX NFL coverage last season. Of the 30-plus cameras, all ring coverage will be in super slow mo. On the audio front, FOX Sports will employ more than 50 wired and wireless microphones, including mics on referees and trainers. https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-...=Wilder vs. Fury III,on referees and trainers.
Gus never did seem very popular with the guys in online boxing circles, but I always enjoyed him. I thought he hit the sweet spot of what Mauro goes for but oversteps. Had better one-liners, too. I don't mind Al. Weirdly, I always enjoyed him much more on UK TV (he went through a period of coming over to work Channel 5's coverage of Hennessy Sports cards, some of which I attended), I guess because his presence seemed to lend an air of sophistication to otherwise provincial events at glamorous venues like Ponds Forge Sports Centre. I've seen much more film of O'Grady boxing than heard him calling fights, but I remember him doing commentary on a copy of the Páez-Grove rematch I've got stashed in my archive (I should dig out for a revisit soon).
Jamico-Canadian English. God he's awful. He has never improved, still mumbling and stumbling through his commentary.
