I don't know who is best but the three coaches I have worked with since being pro are great at different things I'm back home now with a trainer who knows me a bit more than the others did so it's suiting me more being in my own environment close too my family.

if borg had a lad with little experience do you think hed turn him into a british champ, cos i dont.

That's a humble answer of him, i like that. He doesn't need to beat his own drum and tbh seeing interviews of him he seems quiet type.

    Good trainer IMO.

I agree in that a trainer who has one stand out fighter does not make him a great trainer. Joe Gallagher has had alot of success at late but as someone mentioned his fighters was already top amatuers which helps. I have trained with some very good trainers including Emanuel Steward, every trainer has there own ways but a great trainer can work with any style and improve it. My reasons for saying Bob Shannon is because i have been there and trained with Bob and i can honestly say the man knows boxing inside out. He has undefeated commenwealth champ Denton Vassel, took Prince Arron from on the verge of quiting the sport to british champion, has taken over as coach for Matty Askin and has improved Matthew Hatton since taking over him despite Matthews recent defeat. Ricky Hatton also said that if he had the chance he would of been trained by Bob instead of Floyd Mayweather snr. Along with that he looks after his fighters and guides them every step of the way and cares for his fighters. So thats why i would say Bob Shannon, but thats going by my personal experience.

    Adam Booth.

I bet there are several exceptional trainers in Britain who haven't had champions though.

Taking to Jimmy Tibbs is great, the man as huge knowledge of boxing and hes achieved so much.
John Breen also very educated man,Peter Harrison acheived so much with only a small stable as well.
Dont think these Americans are any better than our own there not

  11. I largely agree.

A problem we have is that when a British fighter loses there almost has to be an inquest - something went wrong. What was it? Was it the opponent just being better on the night? No. Was it the trainer.... erm... yeah ok sack him.

Freddie Roach is a brilliant trainer but has he really improved Khan all that much technically? I'd argue that he hasn't.

A lot of the best British trainers get little coverage, or once they start making progress a fighter will **** off elsewhere.

Must admit I forgot all about John Breen, gives sound advice in the corner with Mad Eamon.

I think British trainers would do better if they had lads from the amateurs through into the pros, they'd hit the ground running rather than having to spend lots of time getting to know them as fighters and personally too.

It's laughable that a potentially world beating amateur could fall into the hands of a genuinely crap trainer like Vince Cleverly. I use the word trainer loosely here

Soz mate it wasnt a humble answer, when questioned he stuttered as if he was thinking,"i dont know why im doing so well"
tony borg as nice as the guy may be is not, repeat is not the best british trainer. He slogs them lads to an inch within there life, with v.little tech work. Onkly improvment ive saeen apart from g.b workrate is he now uses uppercuts,**** against murray all 11 rounds he was looking at the floor and only threw hooks.
    thats my opinion of course.
but saying borg is one of the top trainers at the mo ,has echos of adam smith

Oliver Harrison deserves a shout...took limited fighters like jamie moore and matt murray to a good level, jamie moore being one of the most exciting fighters in the UK at the time and Matt Murray is now up there with the likes of Barker and Macklin.
