Won't anyone who has read their **** and looked at the records admit that McVea and Jeanette just weren't that good? Or do we need to go on with this farce that they were supreme forces to reckoned with?

This should be good. Let's take McVea.

Between 1908 and 1911 McVea fought 32 times according to boxrec. He lost just ONCE to Jeanette, after 49 rounds in one of Europes then most celebrated fights.

He beat Jeanette, Jim Johnson and Sam Langford in that time, as well as guys like Jack Lester and Jim Barry. He's 31-1 for these years. Why is he "not that good"? Because ATG Sam Langford beat him up in 1912? Between 1906 and 1915 he ONLY lost to Wills, Langford and Jeanette. He also beat all of these men.

Its like my grandfather used to say
There was many a man who would have made a fine champion had they not met Muhammad Ali

It's worth remembering though that Quarry fought in a far tougher era, and if it wasn't for his tendency to cut then he may have been even better. Guys like Shavers and Lyle compare favourably to anybody on Tua's resume. Not to mention Patterson as well, he could of added Chuvalo to the list as well but instead lost in bizarre circumstances. Although i agree Tua surely would have won a title if he'd been given another shot.

Jack Johnson suffered some sort of breakdown due to the lynchings that followed his fight with Jeffries, and was breifly hospitalised.

I would suggest that after this, Langford should have had a good chance of taking him.

Neither had longevity, but James Toney and Tyrell Biggs were pretty good on their best nights at heavy. Golata too, especially with all of the title shots he had.

In my book, these man were champs. It was a split title era. If anything, tehy had a better claim to the title than their coutnerparts.

Jimmy Young and Ken Norton must be considered. I know Norton was awarded the WBC title due to Leon Spinks being stripped of it,but I do n't really count that.

Do you mean the overall heavyweight champion and if so when did they award it to him? I know Kilrain held the belt and Fitz beat Maher for it.
Was it after the Slavin fight-it's just that I can't recall hearing of this?
