Of course by tall, I mean tall in their division. So which fighters should every tall fighter watch and try to model themselves after?
Masao Ohba at flyweight. Panama Al Brown & Carlos Zarate at bantamweight. Alexis Arguello at featherweight Can't think of any tall lightweights worth tracking... perhaps Arguello again would be the one to look for. Antonio Cervantes at junior welterweight Tommy Hearns at welterweight. Tito Trinidad as well. Someone else can take it from there:good
At lightheavyweight I'd look at Bob Foster or Michael Spinks. For a junior middleweight, perhaps Nino Benvenuti.
Agree wholeheartedly with the Z man choice. Putting your guy in against Zarate must've felt like Arcel bringing in all those guys against Louis.
Probably a better choice than Arguello though slightly less tall. Definitely a more complete product at 126 that Alexis :good
No one fought "tall" better than Monzon. He utilized every inch of his reach and always controlled the distance between himself and his opponent.
If you actually box you need to work on your jab, trebbling your jab, 'straight' right (make it sharp straight), keeping your best range with good footwork, timing uppercuts to an incoming fighter and holding at close range which is less likely to be your optimum fighting range. Learning and practising the punches and movement is the most important part of the game regardless of height As for fighters to watch, don't copy certain fighters because they are successful they make their style work for them but don't always have good technique. Vitali/Ali break many textbook rules and get away with it because of massive height advantages and/or athleticism, but both was wrecked by Lennox and Frazier because of a floored leaning back with hands down style
