I agree that Wilder was past his best when he lost to Parker and Zhang, but I also thing that they were better than anybody that he beat. That is a half problem on your end of the argument.
There was plenty of talent in the divisions below heavy when Wilder was active. If smaller classical heavies could beat him why didn't Kovalev, Ward, Stevenson, Beterbiev, Bivol, Alvarez, Ramirez, Breidis etc call him out?
A prime Wilder can KO anyone. No opponent could let down their defensive discipline without risking it all.
I think Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua were better than anyone Wlad Klitschko beat in his entire career ... by a fairly wide margin. I think they were the two best guys he ever faced. Does that mean a prime Wlad Klitschko loses to Fury and Joshua, just because Wlad at the end of his career did? Of course not. I thought Gene Tunney was better than anyone Dempsey beat. Larry Holmes may have been better than anyone Muhammad Ali beat. Corbett was probably better than anyone Sullivan beat. Does that mean younger versions of Sullivan, Dempsey and Ali have no shot? Of course not. According to Compubox, Wilder landed fewer punches against Parker over 12 rounds than Ali landed against Holmes in 10 rounds. Wilder was shot to bits. He was the definition of a shot fighter. Can see the opening but can't throw the punch. And gun shy. Even Parker said he thought Wilder would at least come forward. Still, Wilder left the ring pretty much unscathed. You don't think an eight-years-younger Wilder would've done any better? Wilder threw 400 more punches and landed 200 more punches against Stiverne in their first title fight in 2015 than he did against Parker in 2023, and Wilder had a broken right hand for most of the Stiverne fight. Still, the younger, injured Wilder kept punching. He landed 39 punches total over 12 rounds with Parker. Ali landed 42 against Holmes. SHOT TO BITS. Quit clinging to those final year losses like they mean anything.
If classical heavies like Dempsey or Louis could beat him why not Beterbiev? What on film would lead you to think Louis has a better shot? The kayo loss to Schmelling? Getting dropped and hurt by Tony Galento? Louis wasn't super hard to hit and was dropped numerous times. Doesn't seem like a great matchup for him. If your going to bother responding how about a well-thought out analysis of why Dempsey, Louis etc match up better with Wilder rather than a laugh emoji?
Beterbiev's got his hands full beating non ATG light heavyweights and you're comparing him to Joe Louis? Typical
Beterbiev's first close fight was at age 39, prior to that he kayoed everyone he faced. And that's a negative in your book? What was Louis doing at that age? If you don't rate his opposition that's hardly Beterbiev's fault, he can only fight guys in his own era
Louis had 69 fights, Beterbiev has 21 fights at 39yo. Louis had 21 fights before turning 22. Bringing up age in comparison to Louis with zero context is your usual thoughtless disingenuous rot and you wonder why people avoid you.
He’s got a ton of heart, and it only takes one… Anyone going 12 rounds with this guy better be on their Ps and Qs…. Im not sure if make him a favorite over many people, but if he were to run a gauntlet of past contenders and champions, he’d definitely knock a few of them out along the way…..
Mike Tyson Riddick Bowe Larry Holmes Tim Witherspoon Pinklon Thomas Lennox Lewis Muhammad Ali Joe Louis Sonny Liston Ike Ibeabuchi Vitali Klitschko etc There's so many i could list atleast 20 names i have chosen Heavyweights that are pretty durable aswell as being very skillful as i do realize Wilder's power is a legit threat.
After re-watching Wilder - Zhang i don't think Wilder ever would have beaten him. He was seeing that right hand a mile off and slipping it quite well and he was also getting his head off the line when throwing that compact short left cross of his. He sat on the right hand all fight and was making him pay, which culminated in a KO. His reflexes and sharpness countering are impressive given he's so old and hardly fast. His left hand is hard to pick up on.
