The future of the sport seems pretty grim in that respect in terms of a Mayweather/ Pacquiao/ GGG/ Canelo type of fame. The big names will be gone in 3 years including Canelo, GGG, Crawford, probably Spence, probably Fury, etc. No fighter below Welter has been able to carry the sport so although there is a lot of young talent under 147 it would defy history for someone like a bantamweight to be the sports biggest draw. Who do you see being the face or faces of boxing in 3 to 5? Boots? Vergil? Jared Anderson? I mean I'd throw Hrgovic in there too but I don't see a Croatian carrying the sport. Nothing against the country itself, I just don't see him becoming a household name. It sure as hell isn't going to be Ryan Garcia, Tank or Devin.
If you consider 95% of America having no idea who they are a superstar. There will never be another Ali, Frazier, Hagler, Hearns, Duran, Tyson, Holyfield, Jones jr, De La Hoya in the USA.
Not a chance in hell. Garcia is never going to recover from his first convincing loss (probably to Tank) and Tank is 5'4 so he isn't even getting up to a Welter. Not a chance either of them are the faces of boxing. Jake Paul has a better shot and by a large margin.
I feel like people at my university know who Mayweather, Canelo and Tank are more than 90% of these guys
Hrgovic maybe. Idk. Persona wise... Hmm. Garcia I guess; especially after he knocks out that little thug Twink. Redkach would be a temporary star by dispatching of Broker once and for all. Idk
Boots Ennis has the best shot to be a superstar. He has great power, good speed and combinations. There are a few who may be better, Stevenson and Haney may be two such fighters but they don't have the fan friendly style Ennis possesses. I'd love to see him and Vergil Ortiz go at it but these days people protect their Oh.
Stevenson, Boots, Inoue - outside of them, nothing stands out. All of the spotlight up and comers have asterisks against their names. Davis refuses to fight top contenders and arguably has a loss against Cruz. Ryan Garcia was dropped heavily by Campbell and has since done very little. Crawford is letting the prime of his career pass by and like Tank, refuses to fight the best out there - the same can be said about Spence. HW shows very little promise at this stage. Usyk and Fury are light years ahead of anyone else, and they’ll both be gone with 18 months. We really were spoilt with the number of ATG Welters that we’ve witnessed over the last 15 years. An interesting time for boxing, for sure. Love him or hate him, we need more social media superstars, like Garcia to keep this sport alive for decades to come.
To be a star you need a fellow dance partner Mayweather had Oscar that made him world famous but until a young up and comer takes out Canelo it'll be no one there's no one exciting going through the divisions beating the best and putting on amazing performances everyone just out there taking the easiest path to a belt then holding onto it for dear life
Usyk and Inoue. Haney is trying to, and Shakur was at 130, he probably wants the top guys at 135, too.
