Very harsh. Holyfield met quality no doubt, indeed more than Galaxy, but if that is the argument for who is better than Mercer is better than Demspey, Johnson, Jeffries, Louis and Marciano...

Holyfield beats Galaxy in this particular factor, but I do not see Holyfield having a five year + reign as The Champion, I do not see Holyfield retiring undefeated champion and Holyfield lacks the iconic status of a Galaxy, who was a god in Thailand.

    The truth often is.

I agree. But that's NOT the argument. The argument is that Holyfield BEAT better fighters than Galaxy beat, not simply FACED better fighters.

He BEAT Tyson twice, he BEAT Qawi twice, he BEAT Bowe, he BEAT Moorer, he BEAT Foreman, he BEAT Douglas, he BEAT Holmes, he BEAT Dokes, he BEAT Rahman, he BEAT Ruiz, he BEAT Czyz.

If Galaxy fought the level of comp Holyfield did, I don't see him accomplishing half of what Holyfield did. Holyfield could have milked one belt at cruiserweight for a decade and a half if he was so inclined, but you see, he was interested in being GREAT.

If the amount of nuthuggers one has is a factor going towards their greatness, I might agree. Since it has nothing to do with greatness as far as I'm concerned, it's irrelevant to me. But fair enough.

By the way, what relevance does it have that about 10 times as many people would know who Evander Holyfield is compared to Khaosai Galaxy? It doesn't mean a thing to me, but given your prediliction for fame as a relevant criterion, surely that should mean something.

I always see this 'nuthugger' thing; I am not gay, nuts do nothing for me; it is a bit crude and should not be used in the classic forum IMO, let the kids use their slang, it does not sound so good coming from the likes of us.

I admire Holyfield, he was an excellent, but so was Galaxy and I got to see a few of his fights (Thanks to Sportsworld Extra) and thanks to the internet you can bring this up.

Now sadly boxing as I knew it is dying on its arse and there are less than 100 active people on this forum, so even if every single one of them 100 gave Galaxy his kudos it still, Galaxy still does not get his dues...

As for iconic status meaning nothing, that is rubbish. If Ray Robinson was born in Thailand and fought 50 bouts in Bangkok before retiring I doubt no one (outside Thailand) would have him as their all-time #1.

The truth is without the spin and hype of fans of his talking about him; him becoming an icon, and then casual fans watching him, he would not be considered by many the finest fighter ever. Iconic status on these lists means an awful, awful lot.

Sorry to offend you. I don't mind being low brow. Just the way I am, but I'll be more careful about slinging that term around.

I don't really get what you are trying to say. On the one hand you tell me that iconic status means a lot, on the other hand you tell me that no one gives Galaxy his props. Outside of his home country Galaxy is a nobody, and so if you're using popularity as a criterion, why should he rank highly?

I don't doubt fan and media hype influences our perceptions and regard for fighters to an extent, but to me, it's selling a lot of intelligent boxing fans short to say that it means an awful, awful lot. I don't think it does. I think intelligent fans can spot great fighters, excellent fighters, good fighters and also-ran fighters and they can distinguish between them.

Many intelligent boxing fans have seen Galaxy and his opponents. And quite simply he didn't beat the level of competition or NEAR it that Holyfield beat. That ain't hype, that ain't propaganda, that's plain old truth. And it doesn't matter if you're from Thailand, America or the moon, if you're honest with yourself, you'll agree.

Also, I'm willing to bet that most would agree that if Galaxy had fought Evander's level of comp, he would not have achieved what Evander did.

But that is my point, Galaxy is not rated because he lacks the iconic status outside Thailand. But where he does have it (in his homeland) he is a god.

Iconic status should mean nothing, but ultimately it means an awful lot, and it is why 50% of boxing fans in the the western world would think a Chuck Wepner (because of the Rocky connection) is better than Galaxy, let alone Holyfield.

You're no one to judge me. Admit that you're another Ray leonard/Pernell Whitaker fan impersonating an expert with your nose in the air "Ray leonard and Pernell the two best fighters of the last 30 years"

I'm sick of your kind. Then you have the nerve to tell other people they're trolls.

You put up some #@&% rabbit running around the ring asking all his conditions be met for every fight he's in then runs around the ring with his glove up his ass and for that you say he's #1. Man, f*** that ****.

What if he couldnt call his own shots, and fought straight through the decade like everyone else? Seriously, you need to come out of your fantasy world and look at some Saad Muhammud, Victor Galindez, Dwight Braxton to see what a real fighter looks like before making your dumb lists and judging people like me who have known more 25 years ago than you know now.

As for Pernell, yeah he's good we all know that but #2? Seriously?

If your criteria is quality of opposition then I ask who did Pernell beat. Luis Ramirez? China chin Mayweather who he couldnt take out? Haugen, in reality a toughman participant? Buddy Mcgirt? Not exactly hall of fame material. The only name I see is Chavez who f*** up in all his big fights.
