Whether it be a cut, injury , being knocked down, overcoming deficit on scorecards, being badly hurt etc.

The biggest adversity in my mind is overcoming mental and emotional stuff. Let's face it, being knocked down or cut can have mental repercussions as well as physical too.

The one that sticks out in my mind is Michael Spinks. During training for his title unification bout with Qawi, his common-law wife Michelle was killed in a car accident. She left Michael with a three year-old daughter to care for by himself.

Somehow, he managed to block that out and continue to train, and went on with the fight. In the dressing room before the bout, a family member brought his young daughter in to give her daddy a good luck kiss. She innocently asked "Where's mommy?" Spinks broke down and wept, literally moments before having to take the ring walk to face the Camden Buzzsaw. Unreal. I can't imagine.

Look at the way he handled himself out there that night; he was nothing short of brilliant against a truly excellent opponent who was in his prime. That speaks volumes about how tough that guy was mentally.

That trumps any piddly cut or knockdown. That ain't adversity.

I think that Jack Dempsey was as good at fighting while out on his feet, as anybody has ever been. Sam Langford also deserves a mention in this respect.

Prime Benny Leonard. Got knocked out of the ring by Charley White, got back in and stopped him (by countering his sunday punch). Was getting beaten to a pulp against Ever Hammer, survived and got the decision. Was with both wobbly feet in ***** street against Tendler, shook it off and got to troll him a little while doing it. Slippery mutha.

I had no idea about Spinks though. I'll have to rewatch the fight again after this. Damn.

Salsanchezfan..great post about spinks..didnt know that..yeh that takes some toping..and i dont think i can...
but ever seen a guy fight the world ranked number 7 one handed and win ?
My old mate Tyrell Biggs did just that against big punching Jeff Simm..broken collarbone early left Ty with no right hand...now some would say Ty didnt have much of a right hand anyway !! but you get the concept...as good a display of left jab as you will ever see...also one in the eye for those who knocked him for having no guts ( which was baseless anyway)
Also his fight with David Bey...Ty had a cut that you could've parked a set a ski's in , yet he fought back to stop the durable Bey.
Also recovered from cocaine addiction...another great comeback.

Larry Holmes didn't let being out on his feet stop him.

Buster Douglas didn't let the death of his mother get in his way.

Harry Greb did alright for having sight in one eye for 100 fights.

Billy Miske had a great late career run despite Bright's disease and going bankrupt in the auto business.

Tommy Morrison beat a game Joe Hipp with a broken hand and broken jaw.

Boxing is very hard. Life can be harder.

Bobby Chacon had severe cuts over both eyes in his rematch with Boza Edwards, yet, even with the Fright Doctor screaming to stop the fight he prevails on a unanimous decision.

Dropped twice during bouts with David Sotelo and Bazooka Limon in their 4th fight with Limon's title on the line and in both cases came through with a unanimous decision. Decking Limon was icing on the cake in the dramatic 15th round.

With his wife Valorie having committed suicide earlier in the day, he went through with a 10 round fight that evening, stopping Salvador Ugalde in 2 or 3 rounds. Still remember him walking to his brother-in-law who was working his corner and just collapsing in his arms sobbing. Adversity was Chacon.

    Nailed it.
Arguably the greatest heart to step in the ring, Schoolboy Bobby Chacon.

Yeah, but I'd like to see him eat 52 hot dogs 10 minutes before a fight, and scored a knock out.

I'm thinking of Marciano with his nose hanging off his face.
The ref told him that if it opened up again he would stop the fight.
    He KOd Charles.
