There's a pretty wide gap between having an iron chin and being chinny don't you think??

And Wlad was down three times, not twice. Puritty, Brewster, Sanders.

You're avoiding mine, were these two fighters chinny or not?

But he was never laid out as badly as Lewis, you're also forgetting Wlad was dropped by Peter too.

It's all relative anyway, hell Audley Harrison would probably have an iron chin compared to some journeymen out there.

I said they were very vulnerable.

It's funny how you call fighters with two losses over 40-60 fights chinny, but when I ask you if Manny - who had 60 odd fights - is chinny, you go all quiet.

Wlad has been down a handful of times and stayed down only a few over 60 odd fights.

Wlad is super vulnerable, but chinny is getting done 1 in 3 fights, IMO. Maybe 4.

Any fighter, no matter how good his chin is, can have a freak occurence where he gets inexplicably stopped - especially if he walks right in to a shot he doesn't see. Examples are Doug Dewitt being stopped by one shot by the ordinary Jose Quinones. Also, Marlon Starling getting ko'd by Thomas Molinares. Another example is Rocky Lockridge getting starched by Juan Laporte. But, if a fighter gets one shoted or badly stopped more than once, especially if he is not otherwise "shot", it can't really be considered a fluke and that fighter is usually, rightfully so, labeled as chinny. Thus, to me, Hearns, Roger Mayweather, Wlad, Amir Khan and Lennox Lewis were "chinny." Manny Pacquaio? No. His surprise ko loss to Marquez, a guy he had already fought 3 times without gettin ko'd, is fluky, similar to the DeWitt and Starling Ko's. Additionally, some fighters go through their careers with strong chins, than get "shot" and are stopped numerous times at the tail end of their carreer. These guys shouldn't be considered "chinny" when evaluating their overall careers. Examples are Roy Jones and Matthew Saad Muhammad.

I never forgot it's just that he got up a won. I think he was down about 3 times during that fight.

Can a fighter take so much punishment through a career that a once solid chin can evaporate.

A prime Pacquiao eats that Marquez shot. A post Marquez, Barrera, Cotto, Morales, Margarito version of Pacquiao had taken punishment.

Unfortunately, Pacquiao's granite chin was shattered by some little Asian guy early in his career. His chin never had a chance.

Bruno hardly ever got knocked out by a punch to the face but always suffered a tko because the moment the shot to the face landed, he lost the fight right there and then. I suppose just because he stayed on his feet all the time in his losses means he is not chinny? Right.

lenni got sparked like an over protected girl. Very chinny

What about fighters who are down multiple times in fights or throughout their careers are they chinny too? If not, why not?

Seems to me there's two ways to measure this. One is how often a fighter is down and the other is how many punches it takes to knock him down. For example Lewis was down twice two punches did it. But perhaps many other punches like the one that Vitali hit him with in the second round nay have dropped many other fighters. Perhaps it would have dropped Wlad perhaps Frazier; perhaps even Foreman who can say for sure. Just like who can say how other fighters hit cleanly by McCall or Rahman would have handled it?

I can say based on what l've seen that Ali would likely have handled it as would Tyson and Holyfield. Foreman l don't know cause l don't know whether or not those punches were harder than Lyles. Would Louis gave absorbed those punches, l honestly don't know. Maybe they knock Frazier and Holmes down but they get up who knows?

Because the problem with you'd theory is it assumes a punch is a punch is a punch. Which probably isn't true. I think Lewis hit Tyson probably as hard as he was hit by McCall or Rahman so that's why l think he takes those punches. Holyfield fought Tyson Bowe and Lewis and Foreman you have to have a great chin to survive that.

How would most of you rate the top 10 heavyweights in terms of chins. My take is something like this

Ali 10
Louis 8
Holmes 8.5
Lewis 7
Foreman 8.5
Liston 8.5
Holyfield 9
Dempsey 8
Frazier 8
Marciano 8
Wlad 6.5
Tyson 8

Very good assessment. I'd give Ali a 9. Someone like McCall would be a 10. Ali fought off the back foot so it was harder to knock him down as opposed to someone like Tyson, who should be higher than Holmes. Yeah, switch Tyson and Holmes and this list is near perfect.
