Michalczewski is the first that comes to mind.

    Rematches with Toney and Hopkins.

    Re: Benn

1995 both had mandatories to take care of and by 1996 Roy was at LHW and Benn was losing to Malinga. That is what I vaguely remember at the time. The fight was talked about as happening in 96

this is another quote from Frankie Liles in 1997

DI: "Do you have a dream fight? Someone you would really like to take on?"

FL: "I think my signature fight would be a bout with Roy Jones. More than likely, it's not going to happen, not unless he moves up and fights against one of the top heavyweight contenders and gets knocked out. That would bring him back down and get him to face an adversary like myself."

he doesn't talk about Roy ducking him and that. It's just **** happens in boxing some fights just don't get made, not all the time boxers are ducking each other. It's just the way boxing works sometimes.

Didn't Roy call Benn out once too? It was a post fight interview with merchant i think.

McClellan wanted to fight Jones at mw, they were both mw champions from 93-94
It would of been nice if someone asked Frankie about that offer
Frankie says that Jones was the reason the fight didnt happen

Why would Benn who was fighting at smw offer a fight to a green mw contender?
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/other_sports/1231306.stm
    True
Hopkins doesnt fight guys bigger than himself
Have you got a source for this?
    True
Nunn was his mandatory for his wbc lhw belt in 1998. Jones vacated the belt to avoid him. That offer was also insulting seeing as how Jones was set to make at least 2m+ for the fight

    Nigel Benn

Q: You never did get it on with Roy, why was that? Who was ducking who Nigel?
NB: It's not for me to say. But I'll tell you this - Jones had a choice, his choice was to fight the champion Nigel Benn in a barn-burner or the contender Bernard Hopkins in a snooze-fest. He chose Bernard Hopkins. Jones can't deny that because it's what happened. He won one of the WBC International belts at super middle at the same time that I was the main WBC super middle belt holder, when Chris Eubank had one of those WBC International belts he landed a fight with me shortly after. Okay, Jones had been the mandatory for the IBF middle but he was also offered the chance to fight me for my main WBC belt at his new weight and I was up for it. I was right up for it. I saw some of his fights and rubbed my hands together because I knew it could be a right old tear-up. But why would Jones drop back down to middle to fight for a lesser title? I don't know, only he can answer that.

i gotta go to work i'll get that Chris Eubank quote when i get back, if somebody else doesn't post it before me.

id say nigel benn, michalowski. they would have looked good on his resume. other than that it would have to be someone at hw. maybe byrd, tyson, holyfield etc.

Collins, Benn, Eubank, Hopkins 2, Jirov, McClellan, Liles, Nunn, Calzaghe, DM. Pretty impressive list of fighters. Really don't understand why people say "oh, why waste time with Collins" etc, when a win over Collins around 96-97 is better than most of his other career wins.

Jones was fighting at SMW throughout this time and only dropped back to middle to not lose the IBF so he could have the shot at Toneys IBF SMW title.

Jones was struggling with the weight so he was having over the limit fights at mw, they were not classed as smw fights. He got the shot at Toney because Toney offered it to him

All I know is, you would have to be naive to think the best fighters Roy could find to face, were the likes of Brannon, Kelly, Hall, Telesco, Frazier. When you hear Roy say things like, make it worth my while for me to fight them, I think it gives an indication of how apprehensive he was about fighting the best once he established himself, then we have stuff like this below, which really hurts his credibility for me.

Hiding behind his HBO contract- which basically allowed him to run rampant in picking up millions of dollars at a time- Jones would fight one undeserving mandatory stiff after another.
But when Tarver had elevated himself to the IBF mandatory position in 2000, he had his promoter at the time Murad Muhammad write a letter questioning his attributes as the number one contender. Eventually, the IBF- which has had an incestuous relationship with Muhammad- acquiesced and forced Tarver into a box-off with Harding for the right to face Jones. Harding would beat Tarver in June of 2000( a loss though, that would be avenged a few years later) and Jones was free from having to face Tarver, until he agreed to face him this past Saturday.
