This came up in the bj penn thread.

I wonder if we can have a discussion about MMA fighters with the best credentials.

also I want to add it has to be MMA fighters using Brazilian Jui-Jitsu ( not judo, sambo, catch wrestling or anything else, ok):good

Arona is the only decorated guy in that lot regarldess of their skill level.

He is also much better in NO-GI, dont think he has won the Mundials.

    Lets take Nog for example:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ant%C3%B4nio_Rodrigo_Nogueira

He has 20 wins by submission and every single submission with the exception of the anacando choke is a basic level submission. Theyre all arm bars, rear naked chokes, and triangles. The only 2 submissions that aren't basic level are the anaconda chokes, and those are mid level submissions at best.

Here's some history on the anaconda choke.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anaconda_choke#Anaconda_choke

He was the first one to ever use it in mma, so prior to 2004 noone ever used that move.

One more before I go! Damian Mia.

    [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damian_Maia[/ame]

All of his wins by submission are basic level submissions.

Whats wrong with basic level submissions. Its all Roger Gracie uses and he is the best BJJ guy in the world.

Nothing at all. I am just saying that in mma that is all you need and everything else is practically useless as far as Bjj goes

Submissions are elaborate techniques, I wouldn't call them basics subs but high percentage subs. I do think subs are evolving. It seems D'Arce chokes amongst a few others are being implemented much more.

    What about guard passing?

Also Kimuras, Armbars, Triangles, guillutones, RNCs are pretty common.

Robert Drysdale just started competing in MMA, so add him to the list as well.
