Lewis's footwork was allways pretty clumsy which is one of the reasons Steward was brought in to improve it.

Greg Page can go down as exceptionally gifted in this regard but one who threw it all away.

Jones Jr obviously. Pep as he hardly even trained.

Jeffries and Grant are both excellent mentions.

Jem Mace was a superb all round athlete.

In adition to his boxing career he made money on the sides as a profesional runner. He brought world class sprinters into his training camp to help get his conditioning up.

He was also a world class fencer.

Jack Johnson also deserves a mention.

In adition to his boxing prowess he was a superior wrestler and swimmer. When he was not boxing he made money with strong man exhibitions and some of his feats were more than impresive.

Wilfred Benitez no doubt deserves mention too. Best natural boxing instincts and reflexes one would ever hope to see as well as a huge dose of speed.

One of his party tricks was to chain a horse to each bicepsand reign them back. He used to do sit ups with people standing on his chest and another trick was to swing his overweight manager round on his neck.

Well, stopwatches have been around since the mid-19th century. Jeffries would have been hand-timed in a hundred yard dash, which, unless done very strictly, could have resulted in a significant error in timing. The standard conversion of hand-timed results to electronic timing is to add .24 seconds to hand time. So giving Jeffries the benefit of every doubt, he may have run around a 10.7 hundred-yard dash. Not bad for a big man at the time, especially if he did run barefoot, but nothing really special, either. No way he ran a 10.4 hundred meters. That would have been a world record at any time during Jeff's prime athletic years.

Daryl Dawkins and Wilt also goofed around with boxing. Both were absolute specimens, so who knows what either could have done had they really tried. Of course, they both were lazy as hell, so I doubt they could have really trained in the manner necessary to be decent pugilists.
