    In no particular order.

    Martinez
    Tiger
    Benvenuti
    McCallum
    GGG
    Kalambay
    Monzon
    Roldan
    Benn
    Valdez

Honorable mentioned Arthur Abraham and Harry Simon who were both rock solid at the weight but didn't have the big name wins at 160.

Was Fitzsimmons an American when he became champion or was that after?

He became an American citizen just before he fought Dan Creedon if I remember correctly, so after he won the Middleweight title from Dempsey. The OP is about American born fighters, so it doesn't matter too much anyway.

Les Darcy is another that ought to be considered IMO. Some good wins despite his career being cut so short.

The original Jack Dempsey was born in Ireland so he should probaboy be considered, but he's really tricky to figure out how to rate.
