    Serious Q

Why do Japan do **** all in the amateurs? For a country with a good stake in world boxing they seem to be a pile of crap. What are the reasons behind this?

Maybe they just give it no credence. Like the WBO and IBF.

I dont really know, but i'm guessing they don't have a great amateur system and alot of their fighters turn professional early

Good point, a lot of them seem to be matched tough early in their pro careers aswell. Maybe they are similar to Mexico in this regard. Their amateur history is nothing to brag about, but they do most of their learning in the pros.

Well said, i'm not sure the facts but i was guessing they had the same learning curve as the mexicans and the south americans in general.

If just baffles me because I look at some of the Japs and I think they would have been ideal amateurs in a lot of respect. They're quite technical, very nimble and always have very good speed and reflexes.

Vasyl Lomachenko won gold at the Bejing Olympics at featerweight, and he won a gold in the 09 world championships. Thats probably who you're thinking of. He looks like an amazing talent.
