If you're talking about the U.S, it's a country that consists of 50 states. The U.S is a federalist nation meaning the States and the Country have the authority to make and enforce laws. Since the Constitution was written, the power of the states has been greatly limited as they can be overruled by the nation on pretty much any manner.

Yes it does, although a few years back Scotland went through devolution, which gives them much more say over their own affairs (which is why, whenever you see stats or something it is always "England and Wales" nowadays instead of GB). Norn Iron has a similar set up.

This upsets some English because Scotland has say over our affairs while we have no control over them. Doesn't bother me in the slightest.

The U.S Federal government has the power to over rule the individual States. The States pay taxes to the Federal goverment and also receive grants from the Feds. So the U.S is a Nation that consists of 50 states. The states aren't really sovereign as they have to answer to the federal government. They can't declare war on foreign nations and can be over ruled by the Federal government on most matters. You're telling me that G.B is a country that consists of 3 countries. Does G.B have a national goverment that supercedes the governments of Wales, England, and Scotland?

    Yes.

Look at England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland as "states", they have "state" governments that answer to the national government.

You don't see headlines like "Wales sends troops to Iraq".

Thank you Triplesod. I'm asking a legit question here, yet other posters can only respond with insults. I appreciate you explaining that for me.
