    I suppose their historic nations.

How can their be a union of states?
Thought State implies independence from other states.

Ask an English teacher............It has **** all to do with boxing.

Anyone born in Puerto Rico is automatically a U.S citizen. Anyone born in the U.S is automatically a U.S citizen. Both Margo and Cotto are technically U.S citizens.

Walk With Me (Twin Peaks reference?)

I dunno mate. I just see it as depending on where the fighter calls home. If he calls Cali home then fair enough.

If we went by the way you are doing it, we would have to take away every name the Canucks have put down. I dunno, play by whatever rules you want, of course but it's dodgy ground.

I know Naz was born in Britain and lived all his life here but what if he was born in Yemen, could we not claim him? Likewise Kahn and Pakistan or Honeyghan and Jamaica.

    I hope I'm making sense.

All I'm saying is this is the way I consider it, you do things your own way (of course, I'm not trying to give you permission:))

    What about McGuigan though??;)

You pretty much answered your own question. The states of the USA agree to an overall government which applies to them all and to act as one in international matters and have a common currency etc. The countries of the UK signed up to the various acts of union which does the same. In the same way as a state could succeed from the USA and become an independant state as Texas once was for instance teh counties of the UK could vote for independance and remove themselves from the UK.

Unlike the the USA where each state has its own government under a national umbrella government until recently the UK only had one government. Now Wales, Scotland and Nortern Ireland have their own assemblies in much the same way as states have their own government. Oddly enough the only country within the UK that does not have its own government is England, which is the dominant partner within the UK. However England so dominates the UK economically and politically that UK policies have long been viewed as English policies. If you could imagine the USA being made up of 4 states with one state having 83% of the population you could see that without the others having their own assemblies their voice would easily become drowned out.
