They claim a lot of people as their own, like Bell the phone inventor, because he once visited, though as he was born in America, there is at least a notion there.

Yeah, I get what you mean and to an extent I agree but I just don't think the place of birth is very important it is simply an accident (except when, as you mentioned, the PoB is purposely chosen). I can understand being interested in your roots and being proud (not keen on national pride neither) of where you and yoru family are from or your culture but I think the culture you grow up with is worth more.

Tell you what I hate! The Americans who go on about their Irishness, because their great, great grandma sucked off an Irish navvy! They have never been to Ireland, know nothing about the culture but still claim to be part of it! They fund the IRA without knowing what it is or what they do and when they have a drink they claim (it's the Irish in me) or some rubbish!!:)

Does my ****ing head in! I have heard that so much from people from Boston and NYC. There was a lad from Brooklyn on here who used to go on about his Irishness and hate the English because of it! I asked him why and he couldn't answer. I asked him when he left Ireland and he told me he had never been, I asked when his parents left, they had never been. I think it turned out that it was his great great grandma who had an Irish father or something:)

Let me repeat myself, every person born in Puerto Rico is an American citizen. Cotto was born after 1941, so he's actually a naturalized citizen. That means that when Cotto turns 35, he would be eligible to run for president of the U.S

Haha! I never presumed anything due to where you are from, except, if anything that you would be more intelligent than us Brits as most of the Romanians I have met have been:)

Margo is definately Mexican, but he's also a U.S citizen. I wouldn't consider him an American, but he is a citizen of this nation.

you can speak spanish and english.. does that make you american or latino?

language has nothing to do with where your from
yo look man.. the question is

    "three boxers from your country"

    the definition of "FROM" is

    1. (used to specify a starting point in spatial movement)
    or
    Origin:

margarito is FROM! the united states of america... he was raised in mexico.. the fact that he speaks spanish means nothing ... its just a means of communcation amongst different people... it has nothing to do with your location or your orgin which is a synonym for the word "FROM"
