You doubt that I understand the question? I actually made the thread and posed the question.:huh Laszlo Papp p4p top ten? Name 5 world class men he beat.? He retired at 32 do you think his best days were still in front of him? Where Charles ranks at heavyweight is not the criteria to rate him p4p I myself do not consider him a great heavyweight, but his resume is formidable' Marshall Burley Christoforidis Moore Maxim Baksi Walcott Layne Louis Lesnevich Yarosz What scalps has Papp got to compare with them? I won't debate your amateur choices because everyone except you realised we were talking about professional boxers. Fitzsimmons makes many lists because he held three undisputed world titles at three different weights. You seemed to have missed the word PROVISIONAL that I purposely underlined in my list.:think Making allowances for English not being your first language, I think you are ludicrously absurd.
The last time I did this (Jan 2015) I had it: 10 Carlos Monzon 9 Benny Leonard 8 Ezzard Charles 7 Joe Louis 6 Muhammad Ali 5 Harry Greb 4 Bob Fitzsimmons 3 Roberto Duran 2 Henry Armstrong 1 Ray Robinson
I know many would disagree with me, but I'd throw Harada in there. Just an exercise: Would some of you not object to the inclusion of Harada if he had 1) gone undefeated as flyweight (meaning he beat Kingpetch twice and Ebihara once); and 2) won the first Famechon fight and became a 3-weight world champion? Well, he did, except on the judges' scorecard.
Since you didn't name 5 world class men that Papp beat I think we can both assume that is because he didn't . Whereas as Charles easily did.The reason Charles won a title at heavyweight and not as the lower weights is because he was denied the opportunity to do so in those divisions.Charles was top ten rated in three weight classes. Fitzsimmons won the light heavyweight title when he beat George Gardner the reigning champion in 1903 see link below. He defended it aginst Philadelphia Jack O Brien who took the title off him in1905. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_lineal_boxing_world_champi Harry Greb has probably the best resume of any boxer, that he is a p4p great is simply unarguable . Lloyd Marshall beat: Shorty Hogue Teddy Yarosz Nate Bolden Curtis Sheppard Anton Cristoforidis Ezzard Charles Ken Overlin Freddie Mills Jack Chase Fitzie Fitzpatrick Joey Maxim Lou Brouilard Johnny Romero Bob Dunlap Jake Lamotta Holman Williams Charley Burley. His resume absolutely sh*ts all over Lazslo Papp's! Luis Folledo never beat anyone of any note and every time he stepped up he was defeated. If you look at my original post you can see that it has not been edited the word provisional was always there and underlined! As I said ,you didn't understand the question.
He isn't for me. I said," others for consideration",there appears to be a lack of reading comprehension on this thread.:huh
He should not even be considered ny my opinion.I would rate him more in the TOP 40- TOP60 range field.
You call Ken Overlin ,"a lower level opponent" yet have Laszlo Papp at number 5 in your all time p4p list? Overlin had 165 fights and only lost 19 he was a world's champion and top ten ranked for 5 consecutive years Among others he beat are: Al Hostak Nate Bolden Fred Apostoli Steve Belloise Ceferino Garcia Ezzard Charles Again his resume sh*ts all over Papp's. You cant be this dumb! You have to be trolling! Well done, you had me believing you were serious for a while:good
I couldn't care less what Papp did as amateur.I asked you to name 5 world class men he beat as a pro and you couldn't.Now I say name 3! Papp was ranked as a middleweight in the top ten for just 3 years. Among the rated men he didn't fight are Carter Fullmer Tiger Benvenuti Massinghi Moyer Fernandez Torres Giardello Here are some of the ridiculous statements you've made. 1.Fitzsimons only won the vacant LHVYtitle 2.Fitzsimmons was a paper champ at LHVy 3.He never defended it 4.Ken Overlin was a lower level opponent. There are plenty more, just about every thing you ever post is garbage of the first order. You have the nerve to use a word like re****ed, best learn to spell it before you try using it again. I still think you're trolling, nobody is that ignorant on their chosen subject!
You don't think Greb's resume is enough to give him a p4p ranking? You cant see his fights, but you can see those of the men he beat ie. Tunney Walker Loughran Gibbons etc
no.... he could win like(example) jimmy young, boring like hell but effective and then he would not deserve it. if i can´t watch a fighter in action it is not the same, if we never have watched norton and we judge him based on resume we would rate him very high cause his wins over ali, young(gift),quarry, sd decisions defeats out of this list just tunney is a big name in an all time great list in the top of the very best, and you can make the argument of stylistical advantage just like norton and ali
How about Greb beating rated opponents in three weight divisions? I don't rate either Norton or Young highly, especially Young who did not have it in him to go the extra mile. Tommy Loughran isn't a big name? We disagree ,he comfortably makes my top ten at 175lbs.Having 3 heavyweight champions scalps helps.of course
