I always liked Serra as a fighter, his fight against BJ is one of my favs. Maybe his prime was a few years too soon to be competitive in the 'golden age' But Im not going to disagree, with his title run. But the guy has come close so many times, it was nice to see the perenial nearly man get a lucky break in the GSP fight

Heh, again its one that half-popped into my head but when you really think about it until the Fitch fight Penn has been ridiculously overrated at 170Ibs. That Fitch fight was great though.

Not sure if I agree with Lesnar - given the way his reign brought new fans into the sport and captured people's imagination it seems unfair to say it was a bad reign. And while you can certainly argue against the worth of the Couture and Mir wins the truth still is he beat a HOF and avenged what was at the time his only loss. And all four fights were interesting and fun to watch.

Additionally I actually admire the UFC for how they booked the heavyweight division in 2010 - any other promoter would have been manipulating it to keep Brock away from Velasquez for as long as possible while trying to fast track Mir to a title match with winnable fights. I mean they could easily have gone with -

UFC 110 - Mir vs. Nogueira
UFC on Versus - Velasquez vs. Struve
UFC Fight Night - Nelson vs. Gonzaga
UFC 111 - Carwin vs. JDS
UFC 114 - Mir vs. Kimbo
UFC 116 - Lesnar vs. Carwin or JDS (probably Carwin IMO)
UFC 117 - Velasquez vs. Duffee
Ultimate Fight Night 21 - Nelson vs. Cro Cop
UFC 121 - Lesnar vs. Mir
UFC 124 - Velasquez vs. McCorkle
Early 2011 - Lesnar vs. Nelson
Late 2011 - Lesnar vs. Velasquez

I think most promoters would have approached it like that. Give Lesnar two stylistically favourable matchups against Mir and Nelson by slow-pedalling Velasquez's move through the ranks. The fact that they didn't and rushed to make the best possible match is admirable and I think says something very positive about their attitude to matchmaking.

I agree with that. As I said I'm a huge fan of BJ and think he's a clear ATG.

Yeah, that's true. I stand corrected. Sylvia was worse.

    :deal

Worst "champion" by far is Overeem.

Worst fighter to hold a title is between Serra and Sylvia.

yes it is but it takes away huge confides from your knees cuz you dont want to risk it again and he had to be more careful in training not to get injured again before the fight therefore he may not have achieved the training necessary for winning
