Thats because the judges in Europe are so crooked, if an american fights a European in Europe and doesn't knock him out or knock him down a bunch of times and completely dominate him, the European fighter gets the decision. That's why American fighters don't go abroad to fight.
Come on now, thats the case in Germany etc but isnt the case in the UK. People always slate JC and some others such as Froch for being hometown champs. However Hopkins and Jones Jr never left the US when a good proportion of the belt holders were European. By the way id add Mundine to the list
Not fighting abroad does not equate to not leaving your comfort zone for americans. Do you guys not realize how big this country is man? We have the population of the whole UK, Germany, Spain, France, and italy combined. Hell even in actual physical size we are only a couple hundred square kilometers smaller than all of europe. A Los Angeles fighter fighting in Phliadelphia is by no means in his confort zone. Just look at the kind of **** that Raheem (a philly fighter) had to deal with against Juarez in houston.
D: this man speaks the truth. The northeast, southeast, midwest, middle america, the dirty south, and west coast are all completly differnt places. A fighter from flordia would feel akward as hell fight in jearsy, as would a guy from LA fighting st louis. :deal
You're comparing regional fights to going into an arena in another country where everyone is rooting against you? Granted, there are some extreme cases in which you are accurate like going to California to fight Arreola or anybody who went into AC to fight Gatti or St. Louis to fight Spinks. However, there is no real comparison for going to another fighter's home country. A Mikkel Kessler going to Wales to fight Joe Calzaghe is always gonna trump Paul Williams going to Carson, Ca. to fight Margarito as far as away fights are concerned.
Williams and Dawson are particularly bad choices. Sure, they haven't fought outside of the country, but it's not like they have a hometown arena or two that they always fight out of. I bet their promoters wish they did, because it would be easier to make money off of them that way.
FWIW, I don't think Steve Molitor, Daisuke Naito, Hozumi Hasegawa or Edgar Sosa has been mentioned yet.
No really it's not different. Like I said watch Raheem (philly) vs Juarez (houston) in houston. The entire crowd booed raheem, there is not one fan for him in the entire arena and he ends up having to fight against Juarez and the ref. I don't see how you can say that hostility is not the same as Kessler going to Wales. As an away fighter fighting someone else in their hometown thousands of miles away from your own hometown you get the same boos, the same biased officials and pretty much all the same obstacles as someone leaving their country. Hell even some american fighters get less love than their foriegn counterparts because some parts of the country have such heavy ethnic concentrations. Try fighting Miguel Cotto in the Garden and tell me that is not leaving your comfort zone.
Kessler has fought 3 times in his opponents backyard. Abraham has fought in the US. Both are scheduled to fight overseas in the near future. Your reasons are ****.
