Wallace was a Heavyweight journeyman type (was he ever rated?) during the Marciano/Walcott/Charles era. I knew that much as I'd seen his fight with Charles.

Leonard was a referee during that same Marciano era I believe. Probably a good bit longer than that. Colvin I'm not familiar with.

What's the story here? Were they all intertwined in some sort of Ali fight-rigging scandal?

If you mean, what they had in common... they were all judges in the 2nd Ali-Liston fight.

Creme de la creme, scores again.

Joe Colvin,,,,,,,the only fight he was to ever score.

Peter J. Bennett, the original referee, asked to leave in favor of
    Jersey Joe Walcott.

Joe Colvin, interviewed after the fight.
'I had Sonny winning the fight, up to the knock-out.'

'The only thing I can remember, is my feet getting wet. The temporary
flooring was installed over the ice rink. The heat from the over-head lights was brutal, melting the ice under the flooring. St. Dominics was dank and
cool, but in the ring, it was over 100 degrees.
I'm sure it was heat-stroke that did Sonny in.'

    Yes Lewiston, Maine,,,,,,,,,,,

Gene Russo, the Maine Boxing Commissioner investigated everything
thoroughly before the fight. Him, and his one staff member.

Asked, did he check out Sonny Liston's contract before the fight,
to see who his manager was,,,,,,,,

Mr. Russo replied,,,,,,,'we've asked for signed contracts and or names,
and they are forthcoming, as it seems the paperwork has been lost.'

The Asssociated Press followed, 'why don't you ask Sonny Liston himself,
    just who is his manager'.

Mr. Russo, 'is that really neccessary, I mean really, what can possibly happen in this fight that would cause an issue'.

You're going through all of this to point out once again that Liston may've taken a dive?

I like your posts Il Duce. You're a very informative cat, very knowledgable, but this Ali schtick you have going on is a bit redundant, wouldn't you say? You have a lot more to bring to the table, which we've seen in your other posts.

Here's a task for you should you accept it. I'm not sure how far your knowledge range extends as far as eras and weight-classes are concerned, but do you know anything about the supposed food-poisoning allegations made about Lt. Flyweight champ Yoko Gushiken and his management? According to what I've read, many are under the belief that they would somehow manage to poison Gushiken's challengers just prior to the fight, weakening them and making for ripe pickings for their fighter.

I've never put any real credence into this (the footage doesn't seem to depict his opponents being any the worse for the wear), but due to lacking resources I've never done any real in-depth research on it. I just know what I've read from those knowledgable on the lower weights/their accounts of what they'd been told by countrymen of Gushiken. No real first-hand sources.

What say you? You know anything about any of that?

Edit: I think I'll start a thread on it, actually. You're more than welcome to respond to both if you wish.
