My favorite 5 all time British fighters in no particular order are:

    1. John Conteh, oh so gifted
    2. Luke Tyson Fury, great character great for boxing
    3. Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua AJ, great personality a credit to his countries and humanity
    4. Lloyd Honeyghan, the Ragamuffin man himself, broke my heart when he defeated the great Don Curry to become lineal and undisputed world champion , then went on to dominate 147 pounds for a few years. Classic career destroyed by Marlon Starling at the peak of his career.
    5. Super Joe Calzaghe, the Welsh Italian devil himself. Fought like a dervish so difficult to beat. Undefeated perhaps he was unbeatable.

and if a german said the same thing to you about sven ottke, what would you say?
granted, joe was a better fighter than ottke, but neither fighter were going to set foot on US soil while jones and hopkins were kings, were they?
not to mention they both retired 'undefeated', both fought in the SMW division and had a strap at the same time, and lived about an hour from each other by plane, but didn't fight each other.
once again, tells you all you need to know about intent.

but then again, perhaps he was unbeatable...

No honest fighter was ever going to Germany to fight Ottke after they perpetrated that complete, obvious and unashamed robbery against Robin Reid.

If Joe went to Germany and Ko’d Sven they’d have disqualified him for something and took his belt! They were worse than the old adage of knocking someone out to get a draw!

As for RJJ at his best, who knows, Joe fought to greater levels the better his opposition was and was immense when it came to working out his opponent.
Hopkins was never in Calzaghis class and would have lost to Joe at any point of his career and anywhere in the world.
In the end a faded Joe fought a faded version of both Roy and Bernard and beat both of them!

Let’s not forget that current modern day aircraft fly both ways across the Atlantic Ocean and neither RJJ or Hopkins ventured across it to face JC!

Where you are born doesn't really matter. Peter Griffin was born in Mexico, it didn't really make him Mexican....
    He's probably my top5 Canadian.

This question is as dumb as asking a red-blooded member of the male of the species if he would consider banging one of the Bond Girls if the opportunity presented itself to him.

Each business protects their boxers- top " sellers ", especially if with them a lot tickets might be sold and broadcasting companies are willing to pay a lot money. No difference from country vs country.
Wasn't W.S Ottkes manager/ promoter? Everything then is normal, they just learned from other countries about business.

Yeah and rehydration, catchweight clauses, another was able to win fight via headbanging, 0 rematches.
W.S at least did not get till rehydration and catchweight clauses.
