Jorge Linares is not up and coming. He has held a title already. I'm pulling for Lara, Argnis Mendez and Diego Magdaleno. I'm expecting huge things from Diego Magdaleno and Mendez.
How much have you seen of Nakamura, because none of his fights have been televised as far as I can tell? Exciting though, but he's there to be beat IMO :good
Diego Magdaleno is going to be big. His punches are crisp and powerful with both hands. I love boxers with a quick strong jab thats followed by a hook....thing of beauty. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMNvyUYYbII[/ame]
Can't believe nobody has mentioned James 'Chunky' DeGale. The lad is destined for the top, once he has a few more fights and perfects his style he will be world champion, he's already world class now after 9 fights. Frankie Gavin will also be brilliant, can see Gavin-Khan being massive in a few years. I really like Gamboa, but he's not really a 'prospect' considering he's a unified champion. If Groves went with another trainer and camp I think he'd be a much better fighter. Same goes for David Price.
Saul Alvarez. Will probably fight for a world title before the year is out. Luis Garcia, he looks ****in quality, hopefully he steps up the level of competition this year. Benavidez looks very good and is very active which is nice to see, also Look out for Frankie Gomez who beat him in the US nationals. These two could be on a collision course.
Some of the up and comers I'm watching with interest: Ryosuke Iwasa Froilan Saludar Wale Omotoso Antonio Orozco Kazuto Ioka Argenis Mendez Carlos Ivan Velasquez Scott Quigg Frankie Gavin James DeGale
LAra, Franco and Acosta, another that I like it a lot, is a young PR fighter that I just can't remember his name, he is 126-130lbs and he was on the PR National team.
Everything I've seen of him I got from this thread: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=269754&page=2 I don't know how great he'll become but he is damn fun to watch and can really whack.
I posted a vid of him in the Choi thread a while ago. The regulars on there weren't all that impressed TBH :yep I like him though, his fight with Allan Tanada seemed to be really good (sadly, there was only the first two/three rounds on Youtube last time I checked). Tanada's a decent prospect in his own right as well, so it was an impressive scalp. :good
Oh yeah... yeah... that's a long road ahead for Degale unless he gets Sartison, or maybe Stieglitz in his backyard putting out the fight of his life. That's it, right now. Consider the other champs, Degale shouldn't even think about getting in the ring with them. 168 is hot, and Degale's defence isn't world class. Ok well nobody mentioned David Lemieux. Same deal there, he's WBC paper (International) champ and has fair chances to get a world title shot this year. David is almost as big as Canelo right now. David's got very heavy hands though. :smoke Hands not as quick as I thought they'd be. Decent footwork, lots to improve to fight a top 5 @ 154.
