Most of us have a pretty good idea who makes our first ten all time pound for pound even if, like me you aren't too sure of their numerical order. Who gets into your second ten all time? Put up your top twenty if you prefer. I'll give my second ten a shot. In no order. Ray Leonard Jimmy Wilde Joe Walcott Joe Gans Tommy Hearns Pernell Whitaker Manny Pacquiano Roy Jones Archie Moore Sandy Saddler
Pernell Whitaker Packey McFarland Terry McGovern George Dixon Ray Leonard Archie Moore Barney Ross Willie Pep Mickey Walker Benny Leonard
I knew old Packey would make an appearance. Pep makes my first ten.Hard leaving Ross,Canzoneri, and McClarnin out.
I prefer to say Post War due to lack of footage Armstrong Duran Charles Robinson Pep Monzon McCallum Toney Moore Whitaker Chavez Napoles Leonard Hearns Hagler Ali Olivares Saddler Griffith Jofre
I'd need to think about this way more, and there's some eras I just don't know enough, so I've probably missed a few that merit inclusion. Tier 1 Bob Fitzsimmons, Sam Langford Tier 2 Sugar Ray Robinson, Harry Greb, Henry Armstrong, Ezzard Charles Tier 3 Jimmy Wilde, Jem Mace, Archie Moore Some candidates that come to mind for the next level (vaguely in order, after the few stand outs (to me) above I think there's a lot that are hard to pick between) Floyd Mayweather Jr., Muhammad Ali, Joe Gans, Packey McFarland, Tommy Ryan, Gene Tunney, Terry McGovern, Charley Burley, Barney Ross, Joe Walcott, Roberto Duran, Marvin Hagler, Tommy Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard, Billy Conn, Joe Louis, Roy Jones Jr., Philadelphia Jack O'Brien, Willie Pep, Rocky Marciano, Evander Holyfeild, Manny Pacquiao A few the next level down, but I feel like mentioning (skipping some out) Owen Moran, Young Peter Jackson, Len Harvey, Dan Creedon, James Braddock, Andre Ward (though if he comes back and win a legit heavyweight title, he'll be straight in the tier 2 ) There's a few other early ones with very good reputations, but I just don't think there's enough information, atleast to my knowledge, to really rank at all like Nonpareil Jack Dempsey and Ike Weir
11. B Leonard 12. Louis 13. Walker 14. Wilde 15. Ray Leonard 16. Saddler 17. Ross 18. Moore 19. Ketchel 20. Burley Just missing the cut is Jofre at 21.
I don`t think Ward`s got the built to do it at heavy, when you say legit are you talking about Wilder and AJ, I mean that would be insane, their reaches would be far too much! If he could do tat I think he could be considered in the Top 10, he would have toyed with Ruiz though.
A first-cut go at this brings me the following names: Benny Leonard Mickey Walker Archie Moore Willie Pep Barney Ross Stanley Ketchel Tony Canzoneri Jimmy Wilde Sandy Saddler Charley Burley The above is in no particular order and could (and quite probably will) change frequently - but, not need a complete rethink, I would hope.
Art Frias Sylvester Kennon Gino Gelermino Al "Earthquake" Carter R. I. P. In Chul Baek Murray Sutherland Mexican Joe Rivers Paul Berlenbach Curtis Parker Jack Blackburn
Just ten! Ketchel Mc Farland Steele Chavez Arguello Napoles Moore Canzoneri Hagler Harada I forgot Mike Gibbons I will bump Harada for Mike Gibbons.
There are some very knowledgeable fans on here with these lists. Can't argue much about most choices in general and when looking at the caliber of these fighters a question comes up,, where does Floyd Mayweather come in at? around 25 to 30?
