Just reading Hanks thread about who beat the best canelo & it struck me that
looking back , I think technically at that age I think Canelo was a better "Boxer" than Mike Tyson
but not sure as Tyson was a champ by then but that does not mean he was a better technician because of that. Although Mike Tyson was pretty good at what he did , I think Canelo at that age just nudged it & ldefinetly improved his skills over Tyson....IMO ofcourse.

I’d say Tyson, since at 21 years of age he was fighting much better competition and in a more competitive division than Canelo was at a similar age.

Ok, but can we say that Tyson at that age had fought someone at the skill level of a peak mayweather ?
    If so who ?

That’s a one off. No one really matches skill of a peak Mayweather. I may as well ask a one off of my own, did Canelo face seven current or former world champions by age 22 like Tyson did? The total body of work Mike Tyson put in by age 22 was greater than Canelos.

Good point .... Canelo as a fighter skill wise has progressed quite well.
Its his management team that has led him along the path that has given him such a bad rep, deservedly so IMO. As a standalone fighter he is OK.
The problem is I think Mike Tyson was also "fed " a few along the way, lets be fair Berbick was not top class, he was champ at the right time for Mike. Mike was incredible but he peaked a bit to soon along with losing a very good management team, king followed & as usual with him the road to ruin.
Mike was a talent, but I think canelo was a bit more versatile...maybe not but I am not a canelo fan boy just a thought...

Tyson. And it’s not close. Canelo did not have an amateur career, he started learning boxing in the pros, in probably the most populated divisions in boxing. Canelo had to get by guys who had already eliminated thousands of other competitors in that division, his learning curve was going to be much slower, as the road to the top had much more styles and skill levels to overcome. At 23 canelo was only half done with his education.

No, Tyson`s offensive skills were far better than Canelo`s by that stage, he could open up figters far better, Canelo wasn`t that skilled at 21 and is far more skilled now.

Canelo didn`t beat Floyd though and was completely ouyt-classed in that bout, Mike wa amazingly hard to get away from by that age, relentless with fast combo`s, two fisted attack with great head movement.

    "Are you fucking kidding me"

21-22 year old Canelo (hell, any Canelo) doesn't belong in the same paragraph as prime Kid Dynamite. :nono:
