Who Beat Benitez more convincingly - Leonard or Hearns

Hearns for me. Would have won even more impressively if he didn't break his hand too i think.

 

Hearns won big on 2 scorecards, with a strange draw on the other. The original fight was scheduled for WW, which would have helped Wilfred (IMO).

 

"Benitez is on record stating he did not train a lick for the fight with Leonard and still fought on near equal terms." Benitez was going out with Ray's sister pre-fight. The "Little Head" was probably making his "training decisions".

 

Wilfred (1-2) beat the guy who could have fought him at Jr. Welter (but didn't), and was very competitive at WW against SRL. Hearns & a potential Hagler, were just too big for Wilfred. Duran was 1-4 against the other Fab 4.

 

Both beat him very convincingly...I'd have to rewatch.

 

One of the biggest myths in boxing history is that Benitez was fighting Leonard on "equal terms." No the Hell he wasn't! Leonard was in full control the entire fight. Benitez was used to always being faster than his opponents, and he couldn't deal with the fact that Leonard was faster than him.

 

True, also another myth is he didn't train for the fight. While he may not have been as sharp as he could've been (And if so, who's fault would that be) he fought 15rds, though he wasn't winning he was competitive. Sorry, that doesn't happen with one week of training. Thats more excuse making than reality.

 

MUSTAFA beat him worse than both only 6 months after Hearns. And would have stopped him with body shots in the third if Pearl wasn't incompetent.

Hard to say. Hearns outboxed Wilfred, but Wilfred also avoided much of Hearns punches, which was amazing. Even though he lost, to watch a guy avoid punches from Hearns was amazing. Leonard got in close and beat up Benitez inside, and he was also hit being close. Different fight.

 

Benitez really messed up after Hearns. Who picked Hamsho for him to fight. Hamsho was a guy who made guys fight at 160 really at 160 pressure and Benitez fought great at 154, but not great at 160... He should have stayed at 154. he would have won another title..
