The Calzaghe fight was more one sided, yeah. Jones got hit by Lacy but he either rolled with the punches or just took them. Jeff barely landed anything on Joe.
It was the exact same one dimensional punching bag, except back then nobody knew he was that shitty yet.
Calzage gave Lacy the worst, sustained, most one sided beating I have ever seen in a World Championship match, ever. My wife hates boxing , and I remember turning to her half way through that bout and saying " damn watch this ". Maybe not the most physically painful or damaging beating, but for sheer number of times he was hit, no contest Calzage beat him worse.
regardless of which version of lacy was better (pre surgery confident calzaghe version obviously), i'd say calzaghe still beat him worse in that as much as i don't like calzaghe he probably dished out more punishment than roy did (from what i saw of the two fights). roy probably embarassed him more
Calzaghe This content is protected Lacy The Lacy that Jones got to fight was nowhere near the same Lacy that Calzaghe destroyed
if you were on this website back then 80% of the people on here thought Lacy was going to wipe the floor with Calzaghe. They were calling him a 'Mini Mike Tyson' talking about how big his muscles were etc. it was downright hilarious. Come fight night I don't think I can recall a more one sided 'championship' fight in the last 15 years or so maybe Vitali Klitschko beating Danny Williams to a pulp. What you are reading now about Lacy on here is revisionist history. The same people calling him a bum and a 'never was' are the same people who were talking about an early KO and his muscles. :roflatsch
The one that fought Joe thought he was invincible, the one that fought Roy seemed uninterested and beat after the first round. Roy showed some moments where he let his guard down and showboated. The Lacy of old would have had the fire to come at him when he did that, instead the Lacy of nowdays just looked at Roy and backed up. I felt sorry for Lacy when I watch him figh Roy because he had a dejected, tired look on his face. Lacy doens't have the desire anymore. He should retire.
They both embarrassed him, but Joe beat the undefeated version while Jones defeated the broken version.
Both were dominating, Calzaghe won all 12 rounds big, and Jones won all the rounds. Roy stopped Lacy but Lacy was much older and shot by then. When Calzaghe finished Lacy, Lacy was undefeated and favored to win.
