Calzaghe, of course. Naz fought Barrera and got whupped. The only other fighter worth mentioning is Kevin Kelley.
I'm a huge Calzaghe fan and feel he's a better all round fighter than Naz but his resume dosen't compare. Naz may not have beaten the only atg he fought but people overlook the fact that he beat a whole raft of top rated oponents in his reign at the top. Or are the likes of Tom Johnson, Paul Ingle, Manuel Medina,Bungu, Mcullouch, Robinson, Vasquez,Soto not worth mentioning? I dont think the above names are 'elite' but they were very decent world class operators. Calzaghe for all his huge talent fought a whole slew of non-entities punctuated at various intervals by a decent contender. Kessler's his best win and that only hapened when he was 35.
Calzaghe doesnt just win his biggest fights..he dominates. see lacy and Kessler "Tom Johnson, Paul Ingle, Manuel Medina,Bungu, Mcullouch, Robinson, Vasquez,Soto " I dont think the above names are any better then Sheika, Woodhall, Brewer, Eubank, Reid, Veit, Mitchell, bika.
Well I think they are!!:bart All a matter of opinion though. Also people get carried with resume, its clear to anyone with eyes that Calzaghes a better fighter. Also your quite correct to note that Joe conclusively beat all opponents (close one against Reid however) Naz may have beaten better names but he often looked highly flawed douing so.
I think I agree with you on this one, Boro. Naz did a lot off good work at the lower weights that gets overlooked. Plus, he was such an irritating guy that his accomplishments often get downplayed. Been meaning to tell you , brother, that avatar creeps me out.
****,i remember the mccullough naseem fight well,i was only young and maybe naive, but i think that naseem was very lucky to get the decision, this may have led to me getting an inflated view of wayne as a boxer as in the media naseem was an ATG,but naseem in his biggest fights always looked uncomfortable and irritated while calzaghe operates with such class and comfort,on this alone i would have to say that although naseem may have fought bigger names, calzaghe has beat his in a much more convincing fashion.
