I've never heard anyone criticise Fury for fighting Whyte, who was long overdue his mando shot. Problem is Whyte was made to wait so long for his shot that he went well past his expiry date in the meantime. Not Fury's fault. And nothing wrong with AJ fighting him in a stay-busy fight should he want to.
Whyte was green when he faced an equally green Joshua, his conditioning sucked because he was gassed pretty early in that fight and he did have a shoulder injury. Whyte against Fury was clearly past his best, his KO losses to Joshua and Povetkin were brutal and he'd been in too many wars with the likes of Parker and Chisora. While I don't think he was fully shot he was very shop warn and his weaknesses had been thoroughly exposed and Fury was always a horrible style match up for him. Povetkin beat the best version of Whyte, then Fury and then Joshua for me.
Fury Whyte was game but absolutely terrible skill wise against AJ Go back and watch it, he has very little technique and he footwork is laughable (not an area he has improved much if we are honest) Compare that version against the version that fought Brown where his jab was much improved and he seemed to throw punches with a sense of accuracy and it's clear Fury beat the better boxer However by the time the fight happened that China had been smashed too often to ever be glued back together
The knock out from povekin clearly took something out of Whyte However, let's not pretend that novice whyte was as good as the guy who was a top contender for years. Many on here picked Whyte to beat Fury and Fury was ducking him Yes Aj wasn't prime either, but the question was who beat the better version of Whyte? Fury or Aj? Clearly the correct answer is Fury
Fury on paper but AJ in reality. Novice AJ v Novice Whyte in a heated encounter with both trying to win. Fast forward 7 years and you have a twice brutally Ko’d Whyte fighting southpaw and making no attempt to make a fight of it against Fury. He didn’t even promote the fight and made no effort to get under Fury’s skin. Was resigned to defeat when he signed the contract.
Surprised people are actually saying AJ. Surely that can’t be right. Whyte barely had an amateur career and was greener than green against AJ. When he fought Fury he had wins over Parker, Povetkin, Chisora x2, Helenius and was mandatory for 3 years. Easily Fury. And the fact he did it so comfortably shows how good he is.
True, but Whyte wasn't really "green." He had already had a successful kickboxing and MMA career (21-1), and actually beat Joshua as an Amateur. I voted Fury, btw. Joshua fought pre-prime, and Fury fought post-prime. Even so, Whyte was ranked in the top 10 when Fury fought him and had developed a lot over his career as a boxer. Joshua was a prospect when he fought Whyte who was also in the prospect phase of his career (he was in his 5th year as a pro when he fought Joshua). Fury fought Whyte when he was a legitimate contender, but Fury was already a Champion. I think people downplay Whyte by implying he was shot when he faced Fury, but they also do so by calling him a novice when he faced Joshua. Ngannou is a novice, fighting Joshua in his 2nd pro fight, after going 18-3 in a combine kickboxing and mma career. Whyte fought fought Joshua in his 17th pro fight, after going 21-1 in a combined kickboxing and mma career. That's not a novice. But, sure he certainly improved a lot technique-wise in the years following the Joshua fight.
Povetkin beat the best version of Dillian Whyte, and did it in the coolest manner. Joshua fought a green version who couldn't throw a punch properly and Fury fought a washed up version with no punch resistance. Stop fighting over scraps. The correct answer is Povetkin.
Probably AJ, but both versions weren't the best version really. The better question is who beat the best Wilder?
Joshua, than Povetkin and after that Whyte is finished as his chin was long gone. Not even a comparison.
Wait until the fight is announced vs Whyte and the usual Aj brigade will be bumming whyte up again to be the best version lol
IMHO Fury. Until the fight with AJ, Whyte had beaten no one. Whyte won after the fight with AJ: Derek Chisora, Robert Helenius, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin... The difference in experience is evident.
