Fenech was avery strong super bantum weight.I dont think he would be easy for any boxer at this weight.
Wilfredo Gomez is the only one Im sure of...of course since the weights inception. A few guys around before 122 came along that would have been very good at the weight and would have taken out Jeff..Jofre, Olivares etc Guys like Morales, Barerra, Pac and maybe Vasquez certainly have an argument.
Wilfredo Gomez would outclass him then put him to sleep. No 122 lb. fighter had a chance against Gomez..ever..Fenech included.
Gomez was obviously great, but he was never "invincible" even on his best day/weight. His chin was never that great, and Pintor gave him a real close, hard fight before finally wearing out toward the end. Fenech brought everything Pintor did but was better in every way. Gomez has never been tested against the extent of fury and pressure that Fenech would bring.
I like Gomez to beat him but I don't think Fenech is easy for anyone at that weight. Morales vs Fenech would be an interesting styles matchup. I'd lean toward Fenech.
Remember watchin' Fenech -- a machine -- get robbed in his first bout with block-of-granite Azumah Nelson. Fenech looked like a pocket dynamo, so I was surprised standing on the ring apron at the Wild Card Gym ta see how tall he was working the corner of Danny Green when he sparred James Toney.
How about a prime, focused Olivares? I've always fancied Olivares as the pick to best Gomez under the old same day weigh in rules. Think about it. If Pintor could push Gomez that hard, a bone breaker of Olivares would stand an excellent chance of finishing him if he could avoid cuts.
I like Wilfredo Gomez to beat fenech also if we are thinking of fighters that could of fought French at super-bantam then harada and hamed would of been great fights at super-bantam . One fighter I would feel happy betting heavily on to beat French at this weight is the great Eder Jofre
