Lots of people picking Toney, and I do love Toney, and I do get it, but do you not think and see Calzaghe out-touching Toney? Or Toney slowing him way down like Hopkins did, is that the idea?
It's a tough one but here's a few things to think about, Jirov was a Southpaw who threw alot of punches like Calzaghe. Yet Toney dealt with his pressure very well and boxed beautifully, but you could also say Calzaghe is a better boxer than Jirov. Another argument is Toney was able to deal with a very tricky Southpaw like Nunn, who threw alot of combinations like Calzaghe. So Toney has had a good track record beating elite Southpaws, yes at times Toney could be outhustled vs Griffin x2, and an off night and terrible performance vs Tiberi. But i think Toney at his absolute best could beat Calzaghe, but as i said it's a tough one to call.
Nunn dominated. Reggie Johnson looked to of beaten him. Totally different proposition facing Joe Calzaghe, no disrespect to Jirov who was very good and very solid.
Nunn did not "dominate" that's one of the biggest myths in boxing, i scored the fight recently and had it even going the 11th round. Nunn started out well but Toney was always in the fight despite losing the early rounds. And by the 8th round Toney was getting to Nunn and won the next 3 rounds convincingly, Toney at worst was only slightly behind and was coming on strong. Toney was floored early by Johnson but comeback strong and won a competitive fair decision. As for your comment about "different proposition to facing Calzaghe" well Calzaghe also never fought anyone close to as good as a prime James Toney at Super Middleweight.

I disagree, Toney loved guys who would stand in front of him and throw volume. Calzaghe was always open for right counters which was Toneys favourites punch
Prime Jones Sure Joe usually has a high work rate but hes gonna have trouble letting his punches go as Jones would use great movement and bursts of handspeed to throw him off his rythm
While I agree overall, Toney did not get outhustled against Griffin as he threw and landed more punches in both fights (and should have gotten the nod in the eyes of most)
