Teo has the tools to if he shows up at his best. That’s a big if though. Besides that getting in the ring with Matias means you are getting seriously hurt.
I could see a Hearns-Cuevas situation with him. A monster puncher putting the final nail in his coffin after a career of constant punishment.
Someone at 140 might have the key to unlock the answer to the Matias riddle and his nightmarish suffocating style but how many are going to drown in his tsunami of constant pressure whilst trying to find out? Many highly regarded undefeated prospects already have
I think Prograis might have the power and sharpness to halt him, if he thinks he can just take shots like nothing. But he is beastly, no doubt. Would he apply that pressure style against Inoue and expect to keep his head?
I think the talented guys that want to stink the joint out can beat him and it will suck bigtime. Namely Stevenson and Haney. Guys like Boots and Keyshawn could be interesting because they might actually fight and they appear agile enough not to slug it out the whole time. Think I'd favor Teo to beat him on points but in less boring fashion than Stevenson and Haney. Prograis would be a 50/50 war I think . Tank might be the best fight of all, but there's no way he'll ever consider it.
I think Haney might be able to do it. Matias is a puncher. What plan B does he have if he can’t hurt a guy that is outboxing him? Haney got one of the best jabs in the sport. I think Prograis gets destroyed by Matias.
He starts off slow, lets you throw, blocks some of your shots with his high guard, eats the ones that get through, and then he a flicks a switch and morphs into Boogeyman mode and starts walking you down and drowning you with constant pressure and then before too long you start struggling to stay afloat and panic sets in and regardless if its 2, 3, 4 or 8 rounds later you will succumb to the waves and drown. Some brave warriors can stay afloat long enough to make it out of the first half of the fight but even the fittest, strongest, and toughest cannot survive long enough to make it to the final bell. A same size Inoue would possess the key to unlock the answer to the Matias riddle
Matias has that thudding power where you can see even his jabs snapping the opponents head back. I think part of the reason so many quit against him isn't just his relentless pressure but also the fact that their own hardest shots don't seem to put a dent in him, must be very discouraging for a fighter to see that Otabek seems to have shades of that, the styles aren't the same but he also turns up the pressure as the fight goes on, can crack really hard, & looks to be very big for 126. I think he will be a very tough test for Inoue if he gets to 126 & I would be interested to see how Inoue will deal with that especially if his power isn't what it is at 122
Once Matias decides he is going forward and cut the ring as well as he does they have no choice to fight or to hold. His high guard gives the perception that they are scoring and get brave because he stays so inactive for periods. A false sense of security. Matias defense gets too much criticism, he's blocks alot of these shots as you can see from this excellent analysis of the Matias/Ergashev fight: This content is protected No one is going to mention Matias - he has destroyed 3 teak-tough eastern europeans and a teak tough argentine. "Boxers"like Haney have been hit 55 times in a round (Haneys defense gets overrated. He has an amazing jab but no power in his shots) and Shakur Stevenson has a history of getting tired passed the 6th round. Matias is a nightmare style for them and too physical. They will say No Mas and atleast Matias would get a chance to teach Shakur some Spanish. Arnold Barboza Jr called out Matias and Matias accepted. His only lost was overblown by critics. A motivated Matias is a tough fight for anyone and will sink anyone at 140/135. Run from Matias he will close the distance eventually. Unlike Prograis, Matias knows how to cut off the ring.
He seems too good to be true. Even big punchers can't put the lightest dent in him and then he just pounds them with hands of stone.
