A rematch between Salvador Sanchez and Azumah Nelson would have been inevitable had Sanchez still lived. I certainly wouldn't count out Nelson's chances to potentially beat Sanchez given how well he did in rematches.

I agree. I'd still pick Sanchez though. While Nelson would've gained more seasoning, Sanchez would also know what to expect the second go. Unknown or lesser known fighters sometimes catch even seemingly invincible champions at their complacent worst. (See Duran's first bout with de Jesus as an example par excellence.) And I wonder if something like this happened in Sanchez's original struggles with Nelson.

Only seen Sanchez fight the same opponent once which was against Danny Lopez where he was still excellent but let's be completely honest Lopez really had the right style to make Sanchez look invincible. Nelson was also a late substitute when they first fought and the fact that he performed so well leads me to believe that had he took more time to prepare he would most likely fight on even terms with Sanchez. Nelson has had inconsistent performances before but he's shown just how well he exceeds whenever he fought the same opponent the second go-round.
