Surprised I mentioned him first, honestly, though I think people were too focused on guys who dedicated much time to the division. Jofre's got to be considered one of the more worthy men to knock Gomez off his perch. Not only was he more skillful, but his chin was better, and that's got to play a significant role. Maybe some partial to the old-timers might favor Abe Attell, Terry McGovern, Pete Herman, etc. How about Olivares?
Jofre is the only one who, in my opinion, was a legitimate shot at beating Gomez....not Morales, Fenech, etc.,..Gomez would have thrashed those guys like he did Zarate. I have long maintained that no one could have beaten Gomez at 122,...recently, I been considering the chances of Eder Jofre. This truly intrigues me. He seems to be the only one. It really would take a super fighter to beat Bazooka at 122,...and Jofre was indeed a super fighter.
Fighting Harada was good enough to beat Jofre twice though... I don't think it's a fait accompli that Gomez destroys anyone not called Jofre either. Morales, Fenech, Barrera, Rigondeaux are all exceptional fighters who were skilled, tough and proud enough to give anyone fits at this weight. Gomez was a power punching/skilled machine but there has been some damn good fighters that would've severely tested him (without me outright favouring any of them either) imo. Actually you could add Ruben Olivares to that list too. The 122 pound division didn't exist when he was destroying bantamweights and feathers but he warrants consideration too.:good
So nobody thinks Pacquiao has a chance here? Gomez had more skill than the 122 version of Pacquiao. But his attributes don't stack up to Pacquiao's. There is two ways to beat a fighter. Use skill or use attributes and just run over them.
With his blend of skills and spite Morales would give him a tough one. Beat him is unlikely. Unless his face opened up like it never had Gomez would overpower the Mexican. Jofre is a good shout. He struggled to make 118 lbs. during his prime so 122 lbs. would be cake. Eder was probably that bit more complete as a boxer which might give him the edge here.
Rodolfo Martinez - World Champion Alfonzo Zamora - World boxing hall of fame Alberto Davilia - World boxing hall of fame
WTF Irrelevant... You asked me who Zarate beat and I gave you three very valid names. Now you're shifting the argument because you have no intelligent reply.
It was more about you blaming ethnic bias than accepting that those men truly WERE great fighters. But since you obviously don't know shlt I'll leave it at that..
No.. You asked who Carlos Zarate beat.. I provided the names of three good fighters... You then knocked them for being in the hall of fame and wrote it off with some BS about them being in there for culturally biased reasons.. THEN you resorted to the weight argument....
