I love a certain amount of Ali, but I don't believe in the 'anchor punch' (personally).

The first Liston fight is one of the most incredible things you'll ever see, but the second fight? A first round knock out? With that punch? Against Sonny Liston? And the phoney roll over...

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that Ali was in on it - not one bit - I think Ali was pissed off because the second Liston fight was going to be even more emphatic, but Liston was paid, or decided to take a dive.

Liston was surrounded by the type of men who could get a pay day out of that situation.

Does anyone have anything to offer me that might change my mind?

It looks hard. Liston had maybe the hardest jab ever at that point too so just imagine the combined force of the counter right.

The "anchor" punch is rubbish. Ali caught Liston flush on the button by a short right he didn't see. End of story

    Enough with the conspiracy theories.

Ali had a beautiful counter right hand that he used in several fights, and many times timed and threw over the top of his opponent's lead jab. He caught the foe as they were moving in with their forward momentum from the jab and ran them into the right, which landed on their chins. He did it with Liston, as well as Cleveland Williams and Zora Folley, and others. The front angle doesn't really show the force, but it does show Liston's head buckle if you watch the slow mo version. There is another more rare side angle that really does show the blazing speed and force of that right as it lands. Marciano in watching it said that Ali did put his shoulder and body behind it just at the last moment when it landed, and from that angle, I agree.

It was a real punch but I do not buy that Liston actually was unable to rise before 10 or that it'd have even dropped him and caused him to roll over like he did. I think Liston was paid (or told) to take a dive and did so with the first good shot he got tagged with, but as Walcott correctly did not count as he tried getting Ali to the neutral corner, and as more time passed and Liston was pretty much forced to get up, Walcott was called over and told that Liston had been counted out and that the fight was over. By that point Ali and Liston had squared up again and Ali was throwing punches at Liston when the fight was stopped.

I've said this time and again:

    1. It was a legit flash KD
    2. Liston waited for Ali to goto the neutral corner, which he didn't
    3. Walcott didn't make Ali goto a neutral corner
    4. Liston within his rights got up when Ali went to the corner and fought on
    5. Walcott wrongly stopped the fight when Liston got up

    It was all Walcott's fault

This. You don't STAND UP when taking a dive. You don't keep fighting and punching when taking a dive.

Liston got flashed, Walcott epically screwed the fight up, KO1 Ali.

If it was a fix why did Liston get up and start fighting again? Wouldn't he have had stayed on his back intel he was counted out.

Isn't this pretty much the same thing as Floyd Mayweather's pullcounter? What so hard to believe about it
