Ive never personally believed the theory that De la Hoya knew he was winning so gave the last 4 rounds away i think he was getting tired and didnt want to engage. now i still think he deserved to win but it was a close fight and nothing like the masterclass its often portrayed as.

Oscar did what he had to do in fights. Against Tito, he ran the last 4 rounds because he had to. He wasn't stopping Tito. He had the correct gameplan against Mayweather but backed off in the later rounds because he wasn't willing to go out on his shield in an effort to win the fight. He wasn't stopping Tito.

If he 'should' have stopped him it would have happened.

Oscar is the ultimate excuse maker. Just change trainers and blame his shortcomings on the trainer. The bottom line is Oscar was a one armed fighter with a lot of speed. He would have never Ko'd Tito, he had a huge physical advantage over Oscar, but Oscar beat him in my opinion.

Tito could be stunned at Welter but I don't think he was chinny. He had good powers of recovery and was dangerous when hurt (ask Prime Campas) and considering Hopkins, who at 160 had considerably more pop to his punche than De La Hoya at 147 (in genuine force rather than P4P power, even that is debatable) and Trinidad took a lot of hard, precise, snappy punches in that fight before going down, and rising and eventually being retired by his Dad.

De La Hoya fought a damn good fight in the Tito fight. He got robbed, simple as. The question should be; Why didn't Tito K.O Oscar?

Oscar was spent from moving around the ring as he did. He was always tense, and usually lacking oxygen in the later rounds. If he stood with Tito late, he would have been an odds-on favorite to be knocked out, imo.

I think he fought a good fight. It's not heroic, nor manly, but purely from a standpoint of efficiency, he fought in a way that made it very unlikely for him to lose. He won the rounds he needed to win and minimized the chance of being knocked out. I don't know how much we should fault him for that.
